If it really worth it? What are the perks you have experienced? What are the disadvantages, if any? What did you end up using your extra town for?

I bought my second cartridge last week and I'm really glad I did! In my first town I felt like I'd peaked with my town and that there wasn't much left for me to do, I would've reset but I adore my first town :( my second town I really paid attention to the map layout and did some resetting to get the map I wanted, and transferred money from my first cartridge so I didn't have to waste time fishing as I wanted to focus mainly on gardening and sculpting my town :) The only disadvantage I've found is that because I'm trying to do as much as possible in my new town in terms of gardening and getting things right, I've began to neglect my first town although I do try and pop in everyday or other day to see what's what, even if it's only for 5 minutes :)

I bought another copy and this time the villagers are allow to go when they want. Main town they are staying forever.
Setting it in a different season and time is helpful if you want to play both towns each night.
If I'm too busy I just check in on my new town to see prices, premium and to buy items. Than go and play my main town.

I also plan on growing a lot of perfect fruit trees to make some bells.
Disadvantage would be not having an extra 3DS so you can visit.
If you do plan on making it a real town you could just play one town each night or for a week. Get a mover and stop them. Than freeze that town and play the other one.

Just did this also. I love my 1st town too much to reset it. I've laid out paths, hedges and villager plots very carefully this time. There's yellow benches everywhere to try and get villagers to move where I want them.

Honestly, I don't see any disadvantages. It depends on the person. I got my second copy a little over a year after getting my first one. I guess the only "disadvantage" is trying to deal with 2 towns, but there's a way of avoiding villagers moving out after playing for awhile. Just simple TT to the last time you played, and TT day by day until reaching the present day.

I run 3 towns right now. A few big advantages are (note: some of these assume you can snaggle a second 3DS):

a) Moving! If a villager decides to move and you don't find out until it's too late, you potentially have options as to other towns to move them to--you can keep them around! Same goes if a dreamie comes up on offer: Assuming you've got space somewhere, you can move 'em into your second town. You can also decide to let one town have more of a revolving door of villagers, so you can screen/check out villagers before deciding to move them into your main town.

b) More buying and turnip-trading options! Two (or more towns) = more chances of getting better turnip prices, plus more furniture/clothing options every day.

c) Badges! You can visit yourself (or welcome visitors) and make progress towards the travelling/hosting badges without having to rely on other people. It's also handy for villager petitions and Katie the Travelling Kitten. And you can streetpass yourself for the streetpass badge!

d) Creativity! You can develop your towns differently, try different PWPs, landscaping and themes. Plus with two garden shops, you can buy more bushes (and sometimes more cedar saplings).

e) Storage! Two towns = eight potential characters. You don't even need to spend the bells to develop their housing plots. All you need is a wardrobe for each and you can spread any collectibles across both towns.

f) Time travel without messing up your main town! Want all the Chinese zodiac animals? Want to try for more Town Cleanup Day prizes in real-life January, or aim for Franklin's harvest prizes or the snow people swag in summer? You can zot through time in your second town (if you're into that sort of thing) and you can be in any time or year you want!

*contemplates starting a 4th town*

I bought a second copy so i could reset my save file but keep all my stuff. Was going to sell it, but it's great having a back=up copy to help unlock the train station remodel, get dream villagers, other kinds of perfect fruits, etc. I also use it to time travel if i missed something and don't want to wait a year to get another item.

I have four copies and thinking (!!!!) about a fifth (for reasons I cannot talk about out loud)

owning several copies has nothing but advantages, except maybe one thing you need to think about: before you know it, you're going to try to have a second dream town :) / with all the work that goes with that
:) (been there 4 times)

I am so soooo tempted. For now I just have the one 3ds, so that will cause a bit of problems.
