Bug off/fishing tourney trophy tips?

I know this month's bug off just passed but there's one thing I struggle with in general with these tourneys: It's getting the silver and bronze trophy.

We all know that we can just cheese those tournaments by giving in very rare bugs/fishes, right? I won way too many gold trophies and it's getting boring. I just want to know if there's a way to increase your likelihood of getting a silver or a bronze trophy without overdoing or doing too little.

I just got my bronze yesterday ! I did it by TTing to a couple minutes before the Bug Off ended (so they couldn't potentially turn in anything else and beat me), and turning in a common bug. It's actually a lot of harder to get Bronze than Gold, I had to reset over and over to get a score low enough that I didn't beat them...

When going for Gold I just had to turn in a couple island bugs and I was 100% going to win.
I imagine silver works the same as bronze but probably a lot more tedious because the villagers generally score within points of each other.

Once you get the score you want, stand next to Nat until the competition is over. I'm pretty sure they can't turn anything else in that way, at least that's how it worked for me.

Without resetting, I imagine it's very hard to not score too high.

So what I do is to see who's first place at like...10 minutes before the Bug Off / Fishing Tourney ends. Then I catch something to be in the middle. Bugs is a bit harder to do due to lust. :/

If you have three characters in town, it's easy: just turn any island stags with each of them and you'll have gold, silver and bronze all at once

Maybe I'm just extremely lucky, but all I do is catch a moderately rare bug like an Agrias butterfly, ect. (I do this early to get the lead) and then turn in a rare beetle from my island's inventory that I stocked up on. It's worked for me, so far.

That's what I did yesterday. 3 "citizens" all submitted a Birdwing Butterfly and collected G/S/B trophies. Since they're friends, sharing works, IF desired.

Wow, never thought of this before. I guess having more than one character really does help with things like this. I might have to give it a try in the next tourney. I also agree with everyone else. Just try resetting to get the desire score and you should be able to get it.
