So, I've been looking on all kind of videos and guides on how to grow hybrids. Im just confused about a few things, I know you can buy seeds and breed your flowers and that way get hybrids. But isnt it possible to also get hybrids from the flowers you already got on your island? Or do I actually need to buy alot of seeds just to get my hybrid breeding going?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I cant find an answer to it anywhere, because everyone just keeps talking about cloned, seeds and breed flowers to get hybrids and not the once spawning on your island when you first start out in the game

You can totally use your island flowers to breed hybrids!
However, for some more tedious process like for the roses, you do have to start with seed packets. That way you can know for sure your flowers have the right genes to create the hybrids you want

[EDIT: my answer got cut because my internet is not the best, but the answer below is great!]

Any two flowers of the same species can breed together to make a hybrid. However, the genes for any given flower may vary and are hidden to the player, and some breeding requires very specific genes, so for certain hybrids, it's best to start with seeds because those genes are definite.

The default flowers on your island have the same genes as seed-grown ones. However, if you've already watered the flowers growing on your island or you've had rain, it's possible that you've already gotten hybrids from flowers that were just naturally put together. So depending on the hybrids you want, it may be better to start from scratch with seeds if you aren't sure which flowers you have. If you're not going for the more difficult hybrids that require very specific genes, then you don't have to worry as much and can breed just by the flower phenotype. If you're planning on doing the more difficult hybrids, it's better to just start with seeds so you don't have to re-breed them later down the line.

I'd recommend looking at the guides on this website to learn about the flower mechanics.

The flowers on your island are usually okay for breeding, but not always. If it rains on your island and there are two flowers next to each other, they could breed and produce an offspring with unknown genetics that may not be as good for breeding as seed flowers. So if you see a flower or two by itself, then they're probably the same as seed flowers, but if you see a cluster of 3 or more flowers next to each other, then I'd stay away from them as you don't know what genetics they may have. Any flower you dig up on a mystery island should be the same as a seed bag flower.

I want to go for the really hard hybrids aswell as the easier once, but since I dont got bells enough to buy alot of seeds I wanted to try and breed with my island spawned flowers until I managed to build up a significantly small fortune to put into seeds. Thank you everyone, Im going to give it a go with both seeds and the flowers I got from my island, but probably seperating them so I know for sure which are which. :)

Best of luck! Let me know if you still have any questions. Depending on which flowers you already have on your island, I'd recommend trying to go for something like the Lilies or Cosmos for your first hybrids since those won't require worrying about the genes; Lilies in particular don't have any hybrid flowers with low "spawn" rates, so you should get all of those hybrids soon-ish. Flowers like Mums, Windflowers, Pansies, and Roses all require very specific managing of genes if you want to make things efficient.

But I'd honestly just go for it and breed stuff. Learning from experience is good, and the worst that will happen is having to start from scratch with seeds if you lose track.

The flowers I got was windflowers and I do have a few seed roses(yellow and red) and lilies(red) I've been putting down trying to breed (doing it as we speak). It's really exciting to try and get into breeding hybrids. I'm sure I will figure it out as I go along but for now Im heavily confused since everything seems way more complex then before (way more then I was in NL).
Im planning on trying to keep my flowers from seeds away from my flowers that are from the island so I dont mix up any genes and keeping them "clean". Can't wait too see how it progress through out the coming months. I just need to chop down every single tree and move fruit trees so I got space. Will probably be easier to breed hybrids once I can terraform and make everything flat. :)
