BRAWL ONLINE CONFIRMED!

But how can they select who's going to fight against whom if no one knows who the opponent is? It seems like the game will randomly select fighters to participate. I might be wrong about this, since I haven't played online on any of the consoles, but that's the way I see it.

This updates really made my day. So much new info, and apparently theres even more things to be released that take advantage of Wi-fi

:D

Although this update also depresses me because i know the smashboards would have been so much fun and this update was so anticipated

:(

:'(

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS GAME NOW!!! With the introduction of online play, I believe Super Smash Bros. Brawl, along with Super Mario Galaxy will be the Wii's killer-app. :r

I am a little disappointed that there are no records of your matches, which is what makes Wi-Fi play so great. Let's hope Nintendo can hold exclusive online tournaments!

:P

I have no idea. I think nintendo need to really get with the times and make a robust online system for some of their games. Really, this is there biggest game yet for the Wii, and they gonna go half assed into online with it.

I'm sure it will still be fun, after all its a Smash Bros game, but nintendo really need to see what XBox is doing the Live, and just copy it, who cares what other say, its the better service out right now.

Because Nintendo ranking systems fail miserably.

@InfinityDragon

It seems there are plans for a ranking system. This is a post by Nealdt from smashboards.

"Look, guys. It's simple.

You run your tournament using the amazingly awesome tio tournament organizer. You then upload the results to the equally amazing tia tournament archive, an entire social networking site built around tournament results. Your full results are then hosted online, and players can add their performances to their own profiles, automatically creating "rivals", earning medals for placing well, and more. It's pretty amazing.

I bring this up because Brawl's WiFi doesn't really seem well-suited to maintaining an accurate ladder. Random matches are anonymous, so there's no way to report those. And matches with friends don't count for much because you'll always be playing against the same group of people. Sure, you may have 1000 wins, but so what? You've only been playing against 10 different opponents! Why does that make you a better player than me?

IMO tournaments will remain the best/only way to make your skill known. We in the SSBM tournament community need to reach out to Brawl newcomers to get them into the scene, and using the above-mentioned tools will help do that .

Because many of us didn't even expect much of online for smash bros in the first place and really anything would have been an improvement for brawl.

full online = Great
Not bad online = Not bad

:P
no online = obviously not as good as not bad online

so yeah, i'm excited because some online > No online

Maybe this is why they closed Nsider. Otherwise th internet woulda crashed today.
Haha...true

:)

Anyways...anybody notice on the character selection screen that Zero Suit Samus is selected from the get-go? This leads me to believe one of two things: There will be no Final Smash moves online....or Zero Suit Samus actually has a Final Smash....interesting

;)
Actually that's just an icon (I think).

Yeah, i'm pretty sure you're right

I was worried for a second if this would be released or not since it has been a year or so since Nintendo announced that the game would be Wi-fi. So I am realived that there is Wi-fi on Super Smash Bros. Brawl Officially. It's going to be so fun to beat people up people across the globe(Though I would be the one that would get beaten up :P. Wi-fi is actually a big reason why I'm getting Super Smash Bros. Brawl but there are others like the graphics and stuff. Btw I have already preordered Brawl at my local Gamestop in July! Yes I said July!

Decent.

I'm not likin' the anonymity with the non-Friend Code matches, and I sincerely hope that Sakurai is using the Wii System Code instead of a different code altogether. Also, I'm hoping for a voice chat mode... After all, it's one of the most requested features with Wii online, period.

Yeah, I don't like that either, but what do you expect? I'm just happy that this game will have online play! After all, they could have pulled another Metroid Prime 3 with it.

It would seem that your wish is merely that...a pipedream. The fact that they have implemented "textable" taunts that you assign to the D-pad and press during in-game fighting pretty much rules out voice chat....could be wrong...but I think you'd be grasping at straws for this one.

Great it is, yes. Will I personally use it? That remains to be seen. I'm sure it won't take long before I despise the online "Play with anyone" option, due to being severely outclassed (this happens with almost every game, though). Play with friends may be the opposite of that. Considering I plan to use that option to play with my family, they may come to hate me doing so well against them. This is why I hope there is a good handicap option.

MP3's online coverage was perfect, and they gave us a lot more then they needed to.
