Having picked up new leaf after playing the other games I must say I'm very disappointed with Blathers in this game. I miss when I went to donate my items he'd give me random facts about the thing I was donated whereas now I just get a generic message thanking for my donation.

What are those of you who played the other games opinions on this?

I agree! I really liked it when you'd get a few facts. I can't really be bothered to 'look up' the facts about donations :c

To be honest I rarely actually go and actually look at the exhibits apart from maybe the fossils because you've already seen whatever you've caught out in the wild.

I too would prefer the older way where Blathers gave you the info when you donate - BUT this one is really our own collective fault - so many players complained about Blathers in acww/accf about him going on, that Ninty have taken it out and made it optional - I have gone and viewed the info on bugs & fish sometimes - its been done well.

Nintendo did listen to us when making acnl - others off the top of my head: lessened the grass wear, made the catalog alphabetical, got rid of frustrating Serena, made Resetti optional ... probably loads of other examples.

I don't know...I guess it was nice to hear him give us a few facts. I actually really like having a wander around my museum now it's complete though so I just read the facts that are listed by each donation. I can see why Nintendo have done it this way

I guess you're right, they can't please everyone, I for one quite thought the Resetti thing was ingenious too and disagree with that being made optional too but alas that's the way it is.

Yeah, I really miss hearing Blathers ramble on about how he likes to cook the fish I'm donating or detail every part of an insect that he hates, but apparently people used to complain about it being tedious. Its similar to how Resetti has become optional and the Crankies have had their personality toned down because it was upsetting people. At least they did leave the information in, you've just got to so searching for it.

I miss the dialogue, but the option is not gone. You can check what Blathers would have said under every exhibit.

I wouldn't say I miss his dialogue, but I wouldn't mind if it was in game either. It's what gave him character/established his character and without it he just seems like any other NPC in game. Sure it was annoying and painstaking to skip, but atleast the option was there and the text wasn't very slow. Sometimes, i'd actually listen to him other times I wouldn't. On occasion when I did, he did have a few interesting things to say. I think it's quite educational actually and without blathers/animal crossing I wouldn't know half of the bugs names that I do now. :) Plus his name is Blathers after all, he should be able to blather. Like he did in older games and that's how he got his name. It just doesn't seem right that he no longer does that. No matter how much I found it annoying it gave him character.

I'm not a fan of long, 10-page rants in Animal Crossing games. So I'm glad New Leaf keeps it to a minimum. And of course, the ability to donate/identify multiple items at once is a major plus.

I really loved it when he talked about the donations especially the fish and how to cook them and all that it was so interesting!
I'm way too lazy to look at the museum since its not fun or as interesting as hearing Blathers saying it himself but I can see why they remove it as it is tedious but I still liked it :(

i miss it. i feel like hes just constantly suppressing his excitement. i used to appreciate the little facts and stuff. maybe you could have a setting, like hed ask if youd want to hear more when things were donated when you first met him or something or itd be an option when you talked to him like "could you tell me more?" and then "could i learn myself" if you got annoyed with it.

I recently started playing Wild World again, and though I love Blather's dialogue, I do understand why they made it optional in New Leaf. It is so tedious donating items, especially as you can only assess/donate things one at a time and you have to read through several paragraphs of speech. New Leaf certainly made it a lot easier and quicker, even though they basically took away everything which made Blathers so great whilst doing so.

I'm indifferent to it. While the facts are interesting, more people complained about it than liked it. The developers were just trying to please the majority.
It's not that hard to go into the museum and read the text, I do it quite a lot to pass time :)

I think I just enjoy reading about them in the exhibits! I feel like I'd just speed through it if I had a fact forced on me ^^;

I really think all the special characters and villagers are VERY disappointing in this game. They are so watered down. I hate it. I hate it almost enough to quit playing acnl for good.

If you donate one item at a time, you should get a mini blathering Blathers. Then he should ask you if you'd like to hear more: If you say yes he will give you more words than you asked for - in his previously perfectly Blathers way.

If you donate multiple items he should give the dialog as it is now.

:)
