My birthday is today (February 17), and I wanted to celebrate in some small way that I could.

this past year has been a rough one for me - I moved countries making me lose contact with a lot of my friends, i've felt like i've fallen behind my peers as I'm taking a gap year before college, and i've found myself caught between my parents' fights more than once.

despite all this however, I feel like this approaching birthday as the minute ticks, seems to be one I can look forward to. I feel calm, and I feel free-er. I feel like i've been able to self reflect more through the sulky moods, and accept that its alright to be a Soft Child, honestly.

i think i've grown a lot through thinking abt the path I wanna take in the years to come, and have found myself more firm on my desire of where to go - but not feel pressured to do so.

from here in korea, i'd just like to wish myself a happy birthday, but also wish everyone a happy day as well. hope this day u get an extra free sample, get that book u were searching for, make a new friend (whether in insect or mammal form) on the streets, or get to satisfy that craving uve had.

As of this January, it's been 2 years that my partner and I got back together. Thus far, we have defied that age old quote/advice: "they're your ex for a reason."

We broke up at around the end of 2016 because, to put it mildly, we were dealing with our own personal struggles. I sought professional help for the second time in my life. When we went no contact during the breakup, it was 6-7 months of seeing grey instead of technicolor. I fell deeper into my despair and self hatred---I couldn't listen to certain songs and would shut off the radio immediately if it was one of "his" or "our" songs. I couldn't go to places I knew he'd be. He was my first love. I avoided watching romantic comedies and tried not to react when people said he was trying to date again.

Then, we were able to reconcile after realizing maybe we could give it another go or at least be friends.

And when he walked through the door? Well. . .

It was like those sappy movies and fanfics where ""time stands still"" then everything is in slow motion. He walked closer and I could smell his cologne. I bit back the urge to run because I felt that telltale sign you're not over him!!!!! You didn't even try!!!!. And since he was there to talk to me, I ended up blushing so much right when we made eye contact. I hadn't looked at him or heard his voice in months. Yet here he was.

And when he said my name followed by "hey" quietly and just as nervously as my response? I was a puddle of pls compromise w/ me for another chance from friendship - relationship again

I knew we had to talk things through so we could try again and make it all right. We did so. That night, he gave me a really sweet bear hug to "close" the convo. We had forgiven each other and laid the foundation to start over as much as we could. We agreed we wanted to be together as the end goal. I (subtly, I hope lol) breathed in his cologne and tried to commit it to memory again. Then he made sure to text me to make sure I got home safe and that we would talk more starting tomorrow.

I've been looking forward to many tomorrows in my life since then.

Apologies if that read super messy/confusing and cringe-y. xD Tried my best.

In short, reflecting on my relationship and the milestone we've reached has made me grateful and happy. I've grown so much individually and in this relationship. I'm much stronger emotionally and mentally compared to who I was 5 years ago. I like who I am a lot more these days. Self love is key.

My husband moved from America to Canada to live with me. It was a big step, but getting married and being able to live together after being long distance for years has made me the happiest I have ever been! I am so glad everything has worked out, regardless of all the bumps we had to face. It was all worth it. I am in a much better place now. ♡

an instance that made me happy over this past year- well, multiple repeating instances- has been discovering a spot in my backyard last March, where there are several wild bushes that i had meant to cut down but hadn't gotten around to doing so, and where as it turns out there are frequent visits from orange, gold, and chocolate brown butterflies, from bluejays, and from bright red cardinals, gathering several times a week to rest and, for the birds, to nibble at the little yellow berries. Every time i'm in the kitchen since then i look out the window to see who's there by those bushes and it makes me smile and feel comforted.

from november 2018 til now, ive been living in japan! i originally come from australia but i decided to work and live in japan for a few months before i start university (and as a great way to end my gap year). although its been really hard, as ive never been away from home for this long (since im only 19), ive learnt so much about myself during my time here! working in a completely new country, living in a shared house with 19 other people ive never met before was absolutely crazy, but i can definitely say it was the best time ive ever had~ i shared so many stories and great experiences over the past few months, and although its coming to an end tomorrow (as I fly home tomorrow night), im so glad i did it. i cant wait to come back to japan in the future & meet new people & hear more amazing stories from others! (i even managed to grab some awesome animal crossing merch that id never be able to get in australia!)

Happy birthday! I wanna tell you a (atleast for me) funny story. My dog is a chihuahua and her name is Goldie. Her birthday is in march, she'll turn 1 year old this year, so she's still a puppy (kinda). But she isn't allowed to go into the hallway, or go outside without supervision (because she's so small she can just crawl through the fence to the neighbours), and things like that. And everytime she does it, I'm like "UH, MA'AM? Excuse me?" And she goes back. But now she reacts to everytime I say 'Ma'am', so I guess she got a new name xD Miss Goldie Ma'am (our last name)

I know how hard/lonely it can be sometimes without direct peers in the exact same situation/environment u tend to hadg around - Ive been in that state for almosta year now since moving ahaha ;; But I definitely agree. Oh man, that's definitely an adventure! If I was given the opportunity, that would definitely be a wonderful time to have. Ive heard lots of good things about Japan, and if you ever get to drop by Japan again, you should come over to check out Korea as well if u can! (the ticekts r rlly cheap between the 2 countries). I can just imagine the hecticness living with 19 people and the necessity to adjust as u go, and I'm psure it was fun. I hope you get to have an amazing time as u continue on in Australia though, and that your education/job from here on show as much excitement as well!

oh man, that sounds adorable! We tend to stick our surname to our pets as well, truly showing that theyre family tbh. we have a dog named sanghyeon and we always cry "lee sanghyeon!!!" and he knows themeaning of the full name eans smthing more serious ahahaha. Its really loving to know that our pets grow to understand and know their names though.
