I was villager resetting the other day when I saw I had Marina in my campsite. Naturally, I jumped at the chance.
BUT I had 8 villagers (one had just moved out) when I asked her, and a Smug needed to move in.
Marina has overridden the Smug. So now I have two questions:
A) Will another Smug move in after she does, or will she keep it at nine villagers?
B) If another villager moves out after her, will a Smug move in? Or will it be random?
A) It can't stay at nine for too long, so you'll get another one.
B) Depends. You might pick one up from somebody's void. If it's a game move in, completely random. But to make sure it'll be a smug, go to someone's town who has a Smug villager in boxes. If you talk to them and you have 9 or less villagers in your town, they'll move to yours. It's really easy nowadays, just go to the Villager Trading Plaza! Or of course, you can scan in a smug villager's amiibo card! ^-^
A) It will stay at 9. The only way to get a 10th villager is via campsite, amiibo invite, inviting from another town, or getting a villager from someone's streetpass/spotpass void.
B) It depends on the personality of the villager that moves out and on the personality your game deems you "need the most" once its time for a new villager to move in.
Thank you guys for your help! I was trying to villager reset for Marshall, and since I now don't have a smug, that'll be the one my game probably deems "most needed."
Also, I don't know why I even wanted Marina to move in. I've never wanted her before now. I guess I just wanted bragging rights ^^""
I'll probably let her move out after this whole hassle.
When you go down to 8 villagers and there's no smug personality villagers, there's bigger chance of getting Smug villagers. You won't get any random move ins with 9 villagers. So if you lose another villager you can try to reset for Marshal.
When I was at 8 villagers and didn't have any Cranky villagers in my new town, I kept getting Cranky villagers plot show up. So it should work for you too..
