Hello. I want to start making paths, but I am not planing on using patterns. ANy suggestions as to how to start this process? Should I like, use flowers as "walls" on either side of the "walk area" ?

Thanks!

Using flowers/bushes/etc. work. Some people like using clovers as paths, but that will take a lot of time/money to collect and lay out. You can also try laying out some temporary patterns where you want the paths until you wear down some natural paths.

Yeah all of the logic above supports the general idea of path-making but what I usually do if I ever feel like making a path I just start off at the train station and begin to make a 3 or 2 tile width path and take it from there, usually after you get into it the path directions will come to you in a way (not sure this is just from personal experience).

1) Plan your path: make sure your path connects all the buildings, PWPs, and houses. You can do this by taking a picture of your town map then draw lines (to represent path). This will serve as your basic blueprint.
2) Lay a temporary path: dig holes, plant flowers, use any QR pattern to indicate where your future path is going to go. Don't be afraid to try new things in this phrase. This is the trial and error phrase.
3) Choose a path pattern you like and lay in your path: make sure your path is 2 tiles wide. Anything smaller is a hassle for visitors (cuz flowers are easy to trample if the paths are not wide enough).
4) Finalize your landscaping by laying trees, flowers, bushes in neat patterns. Randomized landscaping looks messy.

First, try and mark out all the places that you run through to get somewhere. Like, for example, the route you take to get from your house to Retail (because usually you'd use the same route every time, weaving your way around trees and flowers in the process). Now imagine a neat, 2-unit wide path in the place of that winding, messy route you use all the time.

Next, do whatever to make that path physically there; chop trees in the way, relocate flowers, dig up things, etc. until you can travel the path without having to go around anything (unless it's a building, in which case you work around it).

Then, considering you want to make a path without using patterns, your best option is to plant trees and bushes as borders around your path. I'd suggest laying a default pattern down for your path at first so you don't make mistakes with planting things. If you find a spot where nothing grows, stick a flower in there. If you want mini-paths that sorta trail off the main road into a garden-y section of town, you can do that most efficiently where the no-grow spots are. You can also use the side of a building as a natural border when pathing around it. (You could look at my dreamtown for examples.)

Also, bushes come from the island (hibiscus) and other bushes (as well as saplings) come from Leif's.

Hope this helps!

I know a person who uses flowers to mark the paths, default patterns to mark the bushes and another default pattern to maker where his PWPs are gonna go

So I am trying out this path thing on a small part of my map, but i am trying to make it pretty. i was thinking of like a pattern? like tree, flower, tree, flower. or shrub, flower, shrub, flower. What do you think?
