I'm realizing now just how much of my furniture came from doing chores in past games. Even talking with villagers often I'll maybe get 2 or 3 requests a day. I'll only get a reward half the time (why??) and 80% of the rewards are money or clothes. I have the same results giving them gifts. The 4 furniture items the Nooks sell are mostly just small items that go on tables or walls.
I play a lot, and after 5 house upgrades I only have 2 furnished rooms and almost nothing outside except for a couple Nook Miles items I like. Where do you get most of your furniture?
tt or you can go island hopping on each island (except bamboo & fruit I think?) there is 1 drop from a tree
or you can just catalog/buy stuff from other people
Ooh is there actually a furniture drop on all normal islands? I thought that was a rare occurrence, I'll have to check for that
It does seem like this game pushes for online trading more... I have awful social anxiety, so doing that is super stressful for me I did play with some IRL friends once but I don't think I could handle regularly inconveniencing strangers for large parts of my catalog. Especially since I play this game to relax
- shake all ur regular (non-fruit) trees, u can get 2 pieces per day (or it may be dependent on ur tree population))
- hit all regular colored balloons out of the sky
- if u have amiibos, invite someone to ur campsite every day (can get a new recipe; if u complete their tasks u get a reward. don't have to invite them to ur island. not guaranteed furniture reward)
- go on island tours (only works with islands that don't contain all fruit trees; much have some regular trees/cedar trees)
- check the recycle bin in resident services (only adds new things once per day, usually cardboard boxes but those r needed for recipes)
- send ur villagers a letter every day and attach a fruit/egg to it (i usually only get 2 gifts out of 8 villagers & it's not guaranteed to be furniture)
- befriend ur villagers (will randomly come up to u throughout the day wanting to give u something. i usually only get clothing tho)
you can also make multiple characters and do the letter thing. u'll technically be sending 60 letters per day so you'll need a lot of fruit/eggs & bells, but u can get quite a bit of furniture.
one tree furniture drop (and occasional message in a bottle with DIY furniture recipes) per island, and there will be two pieces of furniture from trees on your island! and once bunny day mania dies down, the balloon present furniture is so good. wisp comes to my island a lot, and sometimes he gives it out!
(also i totally get the anxiety about playing with strangers!)
