Start by catching beetles at night on the island. Then, buy turnips on Sunday mornings and look for someone with a high selling price on the Train Station. You can often find someone opening their town up as early as Sunday, since their towns are set on different days. You can get something like 20M bells in a month that way, or sooner if you buy more turnips.
