So is anybody super excited for the new Beetlejuice? I am ecstatic and cannot wait to go see it in September. I even have a little Beetlejuice coin purse that I got a couple of years ago.
I have a weird particular memory of the original movie.
I had a broken arm (2 bones fractured) and was very limited. I picked a day to just watch movies. The original Beetlejuice was one of the movies I watched.
I haven't rewatched it since then. I still have a pretty clear memory of seeing it, but I also remember sitting there in a large cast.
My dad seems to have fond memories of the first film; he watched it when it came out in the theaters back in 1988. When he saw the teaser trailer for the new film and heard Michael Keaton say "The juice is loose", he cracked a huge smile and laughed hard. I haven't seen the first one myself, though he'd probably enjoy me watching it with him.
While I enjoy the original Beetlejuice movie from 1988, I don't really allow myself to get too wrapped up in hype for things. If Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is worth watching then I'll hear about it through the grapevine, and if it's not then I probably won't bother. I don't necessarily think that there needs to be a sequel and am not fond of sequelization and making franchises just for their own sake. Some things can just exist on their own, or have a natural end point that doesn't need to be exploited just for the sake of capital. Some media properties can just have a life and die and can be remembered fondly for their merits without the need for revival or follow up. Like, the Mother/EarthBound games are some of my favorite games, but I'm content that Shigesato Itoi is done with the series and that it ended with Mother 3; I'm not bummed that there won't be an (official) Mother 4, I'm just glad that we got what we got.
So yeah. If public consensus is that it's worth checking out then I probably will, but if it's a dud then I probably won't. Just as a general rule of how I approach media, I'm pretty indifferent about this whole thing since I'm not excited about the prospect to begin with.
I heard about that. I may watch it eventually when it hits streaming. I remember really loving Beetle Juice as a little kid, but beyond that I don't remember anything about it. My older cousin (like waay older) dressed up as beetle juice for Halloween one year and scared all the kids that came to his house. I don't think the character is suppose to be scared, but I mean having a real life one in front of you jumping out behind things isn't exactly non intimidating.
Maybe I should rewatch the old movie..
