I feel the same way. Not to mention having to talk to the monkey at the station who initiates your internet connection and looks to see if the other party has their gate open. Then the wait for the train to arrive, which can also take longer than I would expect. Then there's the chance that you can't connect and you have to start the travelling process all over again. If you're lucky and get to the other village, you'll go about your business and be stopped every five seconds as another train arrives with another passenger and you can't do anything until you watch the animation as each guest arrives into the station individually and the game saves each time, delaying things more. And this is all best case scenario--in the few times I've interacted online, I find getting completely disconnected (getting the Resetti screen) and having to start the process all over again is quite common. What should be a quick fun interaction and transaction becomes frustrating and time consuming in my experience.
Beetle harvesting may be time consuming, too, but you don't have to worry about getting "Resetti'd" in the middle of it and you can spend all of the time actually catching beetles rather than waiting for trains to come and go while your character is frozen.
If you have the patience, you can make a fortune selling turnips if the price is right.
