Bamboo question

I haven't really planted bamboo much since my first town - what a disaster that was it completely took over one corner of the map because I got tired of maintaining it - and I'm toying with the idea of using it in my maze rather than hedges. I'm hoping that some of the members who have experience with bamboo can answer some questions.

If I surround the bamboo with ground tile will it prevent it from spreading? How far out does the sprouts grow? If I cut the bamboo will I still get sprouts?

flowers/tiles/etc should stop/reduce the sprouts growth, not sure how far exactly the spread is though

and cutting the bamboo will prevent future growth spread from that bamboo

Thanks for the reply - as well, can bamboo be planted next to one another like hedges, or is it more like a tree. ( I can't for the life of me remember )

Yes, the floor tile prevents the bamboo shot spawn in that space, as well as any flower fruit or any other stuff. About the distance in which they spawn, Im not sure, I would says that is 2-3 spaces from the bamboo.

I have PWP near my bamboo so it doesnt spreads madly on my town that is still undeveloped but I have seen 1 bamboo shot that can cause problems as that one begins to grow and I have to cut it.

Something like this: R=Rock B=Bamboo S= B. Shot Z=Zen Bell x=empty space

I know is not very clear but work with me, Im at work so I cant take a photo from the game, only posted the place where the Bamboo Shots can grow, but Im not really sure if the shot spawns straight to the right of the rock, but its been spawning around those three space, didnt put anything on the other side as is close to the river and there are more bamboo and a Zen Garden, so everything that appear on that side dies. Hope this helps and I dont confuse you.

As far as I have seen, if the shot sprouts next to the bamboo it dies, maybe you saw a shot in his first growning phase, in which it comes out of the dirt, but it dies afterwards.

No worries, your diagram was very clear and understandable. Perhaps I could alternate with hedges then and place a two tile around the outer edge. hmmm need to work this out on paper.

I assume they were all planted at the same time in this image? Or could they try growing but get stunted mid-growth in that case?

Also, I'd be correct in assuming they'd be counted as a part of the 12-sequence rule if I planted bushes between the open spots, right?

They try to grow but then just get stunted, is like this, once you have fully grown bamboo it will start to spawn bamboo shot every few days that appears underground as the star shaped tile we all know, if you dig it out you have a bamboo shot if NOT, it will begin to grow coming out of the dirt, you can take it out with a shovel but you will lose the bamboo shot, if you leave it and it doesnt have free space all around it, it will just gray out like in the photo and disapear later.

I dont have experience with bushes, only have 2 in front of my town hall and those are separated, but I would assume they have the same effect/rules as a tree, as the same rules for planting trees applies to the bamboo.
