Balloons not spawning...?

This morning, I was balloon hunting trying to get Mush DIYs (only got one in like ~10 Balloons), and as time went on I gradually started to notice that balloons would sometimes not spawn every 5 minutes. Now that leads me to tonight, where I'm balloon hunting for DIYs again and it has been 20 minutes without a single balloon since I've loaded the game.

What is going on?!


Edit: of coarse a balloon spawns 3 minutes later after posting this, smh..

I've had this happen to me as well. In my experience balloons can either come every 5 minutes or every 10 minutes. And I think you can "reset" the rate by going into a building. I had gone into a few buildings myself before a balloon spawned (maybe at the 8 minute count for example), and that's why it was almost 10 more minutes before I finally encountered another balloon, making it nearly 20 minutes. It's also possible I simply missed a balloon or two! But that's just my theory on my own similar experience. If you never went inside during the time you were waiting, then all I can guess is a balloon snuck by you somehow

While hunting for balloons for the Mush series DIYs, I have noticed that I usually get two or three balloons "in a row" so to speak, and then I won't see one the next spawn time. Sometimes two spawns will skip. And it seemed that it was "easier" to get the DIY recipes I needed the further into the season I was. I actually just acquired the stool DIY this morning...

I swear the balloons know when you're trying to get them. When I have my game paused so I can attend to something else, I'll see (or rather hear) them float past like clockwork. When I'm actually patrolling my beaches to look for them? Nada.

I found that if I went into a building and spoke to a villager or shopkeeper who gave me a menu of choices to respond with at either the xx:x3 or xx:x8 minute, told them "never mind" or "see you later" and went right back out, a balloon would spawn correctly at the xx:x5 or xx:x0 minute. Maybe something about it reset the balloon timer to work more consistently. Maybe it was a coincidence. But I'd heard about other people getting more balloons doing something like that, so I tried it, and it seemed to work.

Ooh this happened to me too. Two balloons spawned at the same time (there were two shadows in the sky) and one dropped a mush recipe and the other a normal balloon. I don't use the balloon grinding method because I've been playing a lot more lately and I was able to get most of them through regular play, but it was interesting to see balloons appearing at such a frequent rate. I wasn't sure if it was a new balloon spawn rate that I hadn't noticed before, or if it was a glitch. But I see others have experienced this as well.

Same i leave my character in a good spot to see balloons fly by or try and hear them if they pass by but sometimes i wont see one until a long time too :c

That just happened to me and I thought I HAD to have missed it. Good to know the spawning rates may differ/this happens to others and it’s not just me being crazy.

I found a DIY in my second balloon today, and then a bunch of normal.ones after that. But for almost two hours I had NO balloon spawns at all. Not after talking to the nooks and not even after rebooting the entire Switch several times.

Edit: Switched to second character, balloons are spawning again. The only difference between them is that the main learned a bunch of recipes right before the balloons disappeared.

This game is supposed to be relaxing, not stressful. They really need to up these DIY rates. This morning, I've gotten two clays and a gold nugget, as well as some kind of items. No DIYs. I just don't have time to play this way. And now it's looking like the maple leaves spawn pretty low, too.

I get what you're saying. Its 16 November now and instead of mush DIYs, Im now getting the maple DIYs and the material balloons are starting to annoy me. I really need to the mush lamp and its so frustrating! Its almost like they WANT you to time travel when they make it so luck-based.

I know right?? I shoot down all the balloons and the only seasonal diy I’ve gotten was the mush partition.
