Does anyone have any directions for how to safely back up your save data for New Leaf? Are there different options, or just one way to do it? I’ve been working on my town for a while now, but my DS has been having problems lately and I would hate for my save file to become corrupted. Thanks!

You can save it onto your computer. I don't know all the steps but I think it is reasonably safe. Google it. If you end up doing it, I would love to know how it goes. I have been thinking about doing the same thing!

You didn't mention if your Animal Crossing: New Leaf game was physical (saves to cartridge) or digital (saves to SD card). If digital, you may want to consider researching how to back up your SD card to a computer. However, I've read there were potential limitations and issues with that avenue of backup. All my AC:NL games are physical, so I can't confirm the efficacy of digital AC:NL SD card backups.

Otherwise, as far as I'm aware of, there is no legitimate way to back up the save data for AC:NL. AC:NL is on the list of software not supported by the Nintendo 3DS's Save-Data Backup feature. List of Nintendo-published software not supported by the Save-Data Backup feature

There may be other backup options available, but the specifics of most are not discussable here on the TBT forums. TBT Rules and Guidelines.

For what it's worth, my towns (oldest cartridge is 2013, the rest are 2015-2016) have never experienced a corruption error.
