Avery isn't pinging

Hey!

I reaaaally need Avery to suggest a PWP. But I can't get him to ping me! I've been doing the diving trick and I've 'locked' him in one spot so I don't lose him.
However, when I walk past he doesn't ping, but my other villagers do! This was yesterday and also today, idk what to do because he's my only cranky villager :c

Any tips? Or anyone knows why I'm having this problem in the first place?

you need space for him to walk around

also you can try and talk to him a bit first to get him going

Also try late at night when most villagers are asleep. 2-3 AM works well.
I became friends with one of my crankies that way.

Pings are hard, but keep talking!
Friendship seems to help.
