This is something I could've tried myself for years but never thought to test. Does anyone know offhand whether you can find the rare Tortimer's Island items (treasure chest, different colored wetsuits, etc.) via local co-op with two of your own 3DS consoles or does it have to be with other, long distance, players?
I do not think so, at the very least it must be very rare. I believe that all of the alternate wetsuits (other than the black and dark green ones) are exclusive to the Club Tortimer Island. I have encountered the silver axe on my own Tortimer Island but all of the other items are extremely rare. I got most of them by cycling through Club Tortimer before the hackers a long time ago. Your Tortimer Island wares are only generated once per day while using C.T you can island hop and get everything fairly quick! Sadly, its unsafe now.....

Figured as much, though disappointing nonetheless. Alas. Thank you for the answer!

Is it still possible to invite people to my town and trade items and stuff? I haven't kept up to date with 3DS so I have no idea what is possible anymore

No, Nintendo shut down 3DS and Wii U online servers on April 8th 2024 and unfortunately you can no longer invite other people to your town or trade with them but if you own multiple 3DSes and New Leaf game cartridges in your household you can invite your other mayors to your town via local multiplayer since that is separate from online servers.

it’s possible to do local play (you and someone else with a 3ds next to each other), but not online anymore as it shut down last year. :(
btw, if you do local play remember that if one of you leaves, it should be done by pressing start and then end session (like you’re going to save). my sister and i always end up with an error message/losing progress if one of us tries to leave from the train station. i’m not sure if that’s just our 3dses being buggy though. i hope that makes sense/is helpful.

I have never heard of this error!

I constantly use local play on my 3DS systems to get the remaining visitor / travel badges or to trade items and this is new to me.

Could you try looking up the error code sometime? I'm really interested haha

I have a few villagers scanned in via amiibo. I was wondering if I scan another villager in, do I get to choose who leaves? I don't want to scan someone else in and then find out my beloved Buck has randomly left, especially as I got extremely lucky and his house is beside mine!

Yes, they let you pick! So the scanned Amiibo villager will ask you something like, "______ will move out, is that okay?" and then if it's someone you want to keep, then you say no and then they will cycle the question through all the villagers so just say yes once they get to a villager you want to move out.

Thank you so much! I was terrified Buck was just going to disappear, as I'm still quite new to New Leaf! :)

I used Wisp's lamp to summon a villager to move into my New Leaf town, but there is no construction/plot the next day. I only have seven villagers, so there's no space issues. Also, I already successfully moved a different villager in a couple days ago using Amiibo, so I know it can be done in my town. Is it normal for there not to be a plot the next day?

Edit: Whoops, I found her plot. I just didn't realize she wouldn't be on the villager list until she moved in (which makes sense, haha)

Fuchsia just started wearing Kiki's default argyle sweater. She hasn't received any gifts from villagers and I already had to reset her clothing a few days ago with Isabelle when she started wearing the custom design from Ables. When I complained to Isabelle and she "reset" Fuchsia this time, her outfit stayed the same? I can't find anyone having this happen though-- is this a thing?

I'm pretty sure asking Isabelle about a villager's clothing only changes custom designs. Any other in-game clothes stay the same as they are items in the villager's "inventory." Complaining to Isabelle wipes the villager's custom design data.

Maybe this isn't the right place to ask, so please forgive me. I am just curious and a bit sad about missing out on a lot of stuff.
Please let me know if this is not something I can ask here, but I hope it's OK.

Since there's no more support/"online stuff" anymore for ACNL, were there any items that were unlocked with NFC? (I dont mean characters/RVs, I know they were NCF). But like, other unlocks? I'm guessing street pass stuff and something? Like, is there some sort of community maybe that has experimented with making NFC cards that unlock special stuff? (Again, not characters/RVs)?

hi, it's alright! NFC is only used for amiibos. The special character amiibo cards give you their respective photos, but besides there isn't anything else to get from them that you haven't already mentioned. Streetpass receives data from other consoles using local wireless and not NFC, so streetpass exclusive items (handheld balloons, icecreams, pinwheels, bubbles, tweeter etc.) can't be obtained from NFC cards unfortunately :(

also as far as I know, the game only recognizes a select few amiibo. only replica NFC cards that have the same data as preexisting amiibos are recognized & there probably aren't any with custom item sets / functions.

Aww that's a shame! I mainly started wondering about it as I was watching a youtube video about tamagotchis, and saw that there at some point were like kiosk-stands or similar where you could "pick up" items thru the use of NFC (in the machine and the tama). So I started wondering if AC had ever had something similar (not exactly like that, but like, maybe you'd get sent something in the mail thru a kiosk-NFC thingy or something.) Thanks though, lol. At least we have the RVs with interesting pieces. But I'm so sad I missed out on streetpass items. I so wish I could get my hands on those without modding/hacking my DS ;__;

Random question. in the T&T Emporium on the first floor, there's a little counter in the back next to the catalog kiosk with a lucky cat on it. does this counter ever get used or is it just decorative?

I’m pretty sure it’s just decorative, I don’t remember it ever getting used.
