Aside from their basic personality types, do you think villagers are unique?

Yes, I believe they are. Every now and again, one of them will say something so utterly random and weird and I know for a fact I have never heard it before, lol. I have three peppies in Cocoplum and they are all very different. Merry is always cheerful, Flora is very much a homebody and Carmen is, hands-down, the most insanely loopy neighbor I have ever had.

YES yes I do. All three of my crankies act slightly differently. Chief has a major temper, Fang is v gentlemanly, and Wolfgang is weirdly a fashionista.

I've noticed that my villagers act alike as well.

Punchy is a bit more straightforword and outgoing than Moe, who seems very shy. Punchy also doesn't seem to talk about food as much as Moe does. And Kid Cat isn't very sporty for a jock. He still likes them of course, but he seems to be interested in other things. Kabuki isn't cranky at all. He's very nice and friendly, and I can't recall one time he's said something mean to me. Ankha and Olivia aren't very snooty either. Ankha is a bit aloof though, but not in a bad way. She just kind of sticks to herself a lot of the time where Olivia is more friendly and outgoing. Lolly also sticks to herself. I hardly ever see her interacting with the other villagers. And lastly, Felicity and Tangy are the only two that are similar, BUT my villagers have said multipul times that these two are closer than sisters so I think it's kinda cute that they have a lot in common.

Nah, all the villagers I've had, past and present, with the same personality have been the same

I think the way a villager looks can color someone's perception of their personality, or people otherwise just have their own ideas of what each of their villagers are like and project that onto them. And of course a higher friendship level with a specific villager can prompt new/different/rare dialog. But I don't think individual villagers are actually programmed to be unique.

Yup, they're all unique to me!

I remember having Curt once in my NL town, and right now I have Wart Jr. They're both crankies, but Curt LOVED to give me stuff, while Wart Jr. seems to be less grumpy compared to other crankies. He barely feels like a cranky IMO.

Then there's my favourite lazies, Stitches and Alfonso. I like to think that Stitches enjoys playing with his fellow toys (because he's a teddy bear) while Alfonso is a big Mario fan, and probably has a Nintendo console or two hidden in his house.

Every jock I've had was different, for better or worse; Mac my founding jock was rather forgettable, Bam had a friendship with Lopez that seemed to provide constant shipping fuel and like all my other deer villagers was inexplicably hated by Whitney, Rory was the worst villager ever and I never want to see a periwinkle tee in my town ever again, Sparro seemed to be a bit of a player with an implied love triangle with Colton and Julian while also seeing Dotty, Sterling seems to be my most serious jock yet being the first to give me this dialog about how he has this deep respect for another villager (who happened to be Knox perfectly enough), and recently I got Kid Cat who immediately after moving in wouldn't shut up about Sterling, seriously he would give me the speech about deep respect for another villager that took Sterling months to bring up and mentioned going shopping with Sterling 'the other day' all on day 1 of being in town.

Also I haven't had a mean-gossip snooty outside of Whitney's weird deer hate, I've heard some snooties are unpleasant but Whitney was the only one who would gossip about other villagers being "meanies" and "couch hogs" and it was only for deer villagers. After the deer left she never said anything to me directly about disliking a villager, although Phoebe claimed Whitney mocked her lack of furniture, then Phoebe compared Whitney to a pale chub, then invited Whitney to her birthday party... I don't know what those two are.

Nope. I remember playing the gamecube game as a kid, and being in awe of the unique character personalities. I was very excited to see how they updated that in New Leaf... only to find that all of the characters were exactly the same. Not even their personality type matters.

Oh well, I still love the series.

Haha, my Wart Jr. is really funny and laid back. But, he's my only cranky so I have nothing to compare him to.

crankies don't usually get along with laid-back villagers, and they are usually really rude when you first talk to them!

i think they are unique ^ v ^

I believe that all of the villagers are unique. Even the normals, who have no personality at all but who are all so cute that I'll often have two in a town anyway.

I first noticed it between my two snooties in my last town, Freya and Pecan. Freya was very reserved whenever I would speak to her outside, but whenever I would visit her at home, she would be very fun and upbeat. Pecan was just very spunky and didn't care what anyone thought about her. She's a great flamenco dancer and didn't hesitate to show me her moves. In the town plaza. During Explorer's Day. xD

My jocks have also varied. They're my least favorite personality type, but my two favorite jocks, Pierce and Rudy, are very different. Pierce almost acted like a cranky who just had a passion for fitness, while Rudy was like a little kid who always wanted to run around and cause mischief. My normals have even varied- Maple preferred to stay at home most of the time and bake, while Fauna loved to garden and update me on who was dating, who was sick, and who wanted to leave town.

The personalities that have the least variation between villagers are probably the peppies and the smugs. The smug villagers are my favorite overall, but I can't have more than one in a town or I feel like I'm having the same conversations with both over and over again.

My two normals, Kiki and Gala, are the same, so I want Gala to move out. I've had jocks before who said different things and I enjoyed that. I don't mind having 2 of the same personality type as long as they don't say identical things all the time. I also have two snooties: Willow and Freya. They're a bit different because Willow seems friendlier. She moved in and gave me her picture within a month. Freya was a starting villager who waited 6 months to give me her picture, even though I sent letters every day, hung out with her, ran her errands and fed her perfect fruit. She's welcome to leave now. LOL
