I just purchased a second Nintendo Switch game console. (The “AC” one.) And I also purchased a second game copy (retail). They are on the way (shipping).
With my first and current island, I became overrun with hybrids. I just gave 117 of them away yesterday [Monday, September 28, 2020]. And I have some more left over.
My thinking is that I am not necessarily going to select a new island, a second island, and make it permanent. That I will use a temporary island for the different airport color that delivers different exterior furniture colors. (My main island has a yellow airport.) So, I think this will be useful to me.
I may take some excessive flowers from my main island over to the temporary island. They won’t be hybrids. Or I may create some hybrids. But, they will help toward building up a general rating on the island that unlocks K.K. Slider and is to my benefit.
I’ve been using mainly orange white and black for the majority of my island.
I do have small areas with other colors that Match the surroundings. I used purple pansies, blue hyacinth, yellow tulips, and green mums. The areas still look part of the color pallets though.
I haven't decided yet. I was debating about doing a traditional "pink and white town", but I also want to breed one of every color and we can't store flowers in our storage.
Before New Horizons came out, I was going to rotate my flowers seasonally, but we can't store flowers anywhere. If Leif (ever) gets his own shop, he should offer greenhouse services and let us store flowers with him.
I can't say that my island has dedicated, specific colors that I purposefully attribute(d) to it. Whether through my own efforts or through purchasing from other players (blue roses, green mums, purple mums) I have all of the flowers on my island except for the gold roses and lily of the valley/Jacob's Ladder. Most of them I don't know what to do with, however, and they're scattered around the island in ever-increasing numbers.
The main ones I've used so far for specific purposes have been:
- Black roses surrounding Annalisa and Bella's houses.
- Blue roses surrounding Vic's house to represent water, since he's inspired by vikings and his house's interior is a ship at sea.
- Blue windflowers surrounding the Able Sisters building.
- Orange windflowers surrounding the Resident Services building.
- Orange pansies surrounding the Nook's Cranny building.
- Pink hyacinth surrounding a player character's house.
- Pink windflowers on either side of the dock you enter the island from at the airport.
- Purple roses surrounding my Resident Representative's house.
- Purple mums surrounding a player character's house.
- Purple tulips surrounding the museum.
I'm thinking of maybe surrounding Pekoe's house with purple hyacinths.
It's kind of a hodgepodge because things just kind of developed. Windflowers were one of my island's initial flowers, so they saw a lot of use and have stuck around. Roses and hyacinths are my two favorite types of flowers in the game so they were easy residential choices. Mums fit a specific character. The tulips I just chose because there was a photo contest as part of the forum's TBT Fair 2020 and I had a sufficient number of purple tulips to surround the museum and make it look nice.
I'd have to give things more consideration if I were to choose a specific color scheme but it does seem that blue, orange, pink, and purple are predominant. Orange, purple, and pink are my three favorite colors so I guess it's no surprise. I'll need to get rid of some of my excess of the other hybrids, but I think I'm naturally more inclined toward having a lot of different colors rather than having a select few.
Red, white, and blue in my Liberty park, and farm. Orange in my Smores and hot chocolate area. Blue on my shark beach. Yellow and blue in my teddy bear forest. I have an all yellow area, and all pink area. Able sisters is also pink. Black in my haunted forest. Orange and purple around my house.
I have flowers of every colour possible. My flowers are all grouped together by type and colour. So green mums are grouped together, blue roses are grouped together, etc. This of cpurse means that when it rains it pours more flowers. Now that its Halloween season, I am growing more black and orange hybrids, like the black cosmos. I am also going to buy tons of orange windflowers because they are perfect for Halloween. Im going to try mix and matching for a more themed island
During blooming season for the hydrangeas, almost all of my flowers were blue. They just looked so good all together! Now I have a mix of colors, but I really don't like it as well. It just looked so coordinated before. It doesn't help that I'm not very good with landscaping.
I would love to change my flowers based on each season. Some of the colors do seem to work with fall like the pink flowers. I don’t want to sell all the flowers I have. Hopefully we can get an update that gives us storage for them.
I like meggiewes idea of it being tied to Leif. Either that or let us buy a small greenhouse with nook miles to store flowers, trees and bushes.
I have a primary palette of black, blue and purple but I’ve sprinkled in green mums and orange pansies here and there. I also added a bunch of white and blue hyacinths and green mums to my beaches (to simulate seagrass)
I'm currently using red roses, orange tulips, yellow cosmos, green mums, purple hyacinths, and blue windflowers on my island. They're very colourful mixed together and I like the look of it a lot.
