You are irish if you live in Ireland, were born in Ireland, or have irish parents.

American: O.M.G! Are you from Ireland?? SO AM I??? OMG!!!! WE'RE LIKE BFF NOW!!!

They're not saying they're fully irish just that they had ancestors who were Irish.

I know around 20 Americans, 8 of them claim to be irish, 1 was born in Ireland, 3 have irish parents.

The other 4 have no (signifigant) irish relatives at all, and just came over for 2 months during the summer, but are still JUST AS IRISH AS ME Y'ALL!!.
