Not necessarily professionally, but would you consider yourself good at cooking food?

I have watched way too many cooking competition shows, so it makes me feel like I know what I am doing.

Then I slice my finger cutting chicken breasts and realize I am slightly above moron when it comes to home cooking! 😆

I can follow a recipe, but I have never understood how people in my life can just look through what's on the shelves, and improvise an amazing meal.

Would you consider yourself a good cook?

I only cook at home. I enjoy trying out new recipes and figuring which ones I really enjoy and which ones could be better. Cooking is also the only read I would buy wine as I don’t really drink.

I’m not a professional at cooking but I am pretty good at cooking food. I help my mom cook food and find recipes.

Not at all. I have a few things that I'm not too bad at, and that's all. I can bake breads.

I have hard time following recipes, I often improvise when not sure and make a mess.

And since I lost my sense of taste thanks to Covid, it makes things way more complicated. I love gingerbread, but can't taste it, if I follow the recipe it taste nothing, if I triple+ the spices, it tastes awful for others. Everything I cook is too spicy for my family.

I still managed to bake cookies for TBT, it was quite an adventure. The only cookies I had baked so far were chocolate chips, molasse cookies, that kind of cookies, not shaped cookies. I had to create my own shapes, ruined half of them, some fell apart, some burned, some were hard as rock. Decorating them wasn't easier, I watched several youtube videos explaining how to do it, but I have big clumsy fingers, I made a mess with the food coloring and icing, I had decorations in my hair as well. It was not easy but I still baked cookies and they tasted good!

So I'm not naturally gifted, often I don't know what I'm doing and I'm terribly messy but sometimes, I get results and it tastes good.

I'm also very picky when it comes to food and think most of people (I know) can't cook, my father was a very good cook, my brother too, but the rest of my relatives and friends...not that much.

I'm good at cooking pasta but otherwise I'm pretty bad at it. But my dad is a retired chef, and my sister inherited his skills.

I can't cook lol!

Lucky for me my bf is pretty good at it. We also go out to eat a lot.

top five things I have made in the kitchen:

  • Curry, specifically Japanese Curry with pork, potatoes, carrots, and mushrooms. Might be my favourite savoury dish in the whole wide world!
  • An Apotos Chocolate-Chip Sundae Supreme! (Yes, I am a Sonic fan) I wanted to try out a recipe from my Sonic Cookbook and this was the first one I've made.
  • One of the two things I made for this summer's sleepover at my friend's house was mint candy. Another recipe from the Sonic cookbook. It was really sticky, but pretty good. I will admit, it did need some more peppermint flavoring, though. Another thing about it is that I still have some of it: in the shape of mickeys head, and...squished horizontally. I keep it in my mini-fridge.
  • The other one was Evil cookies. My friend (who lived in the house we were having the sleepover in) wanted me to make them, since, well, their favourite character is Dr. Eggman. Now, why were they evil? Raisins. Humanity's worst creation EVER. Seriously, who thought these things should be in halloween baskets?! But, eh, at least they made it better by having chocolate covered ones in the recipe, and also adding maple syrup and other delicious things.
  • Super Star Cookies. I had to use a Play Nintendo Recipe Sheet for this one, and in the end, the outcome was delicious. I love sugar cookies.
...Yeah. you can tell I have a sweet tooth.

I've always considered myself a better baker than a cook, but I'm taking Culinary Arts this semester, so my skills are evening out a bit more. So far, my favourite things I've made in that class are mini cheesecakes, ravioli, cheese biscuits, and cannolis. I also love to bake red velvet cake, although I haven't made it in forever.
