When you let someone over to sell turnips in your town, people start to expect tips. I always thought of tips being as something you felt like you should give, not a requirement. I always give 10% of what I make, but I do it out of the thankfulness of my heart. Earlier in the train station, I saw someone force you to pay 700k to come to their town to sell. It's your town, you can do what you want, but it doesn't seem like a tip. It's more like you have to buy.
Do you expect tips?

I wouldn't make anyone tip me. ^^
I feel happier when I see people tip on their own, but I would never make them pay 700k or anything or expect them to tip xD
After all, its not really a tip if you make people do it :3
haha thats just my opinion >u<
so I agree with what you said :>

I have only had people over at my town once for turnips and while I was hoping for some tips, I would never make it a requirement. Although I do think that the people that spend the entire evening (5+ hours) letting people in and out of their town to sell turnips deserve a tip.

I've only let people sell in my town once before on Reddit. I said tips are appreciated but not necessary (that's the rules over there anyway). I don't expect tips and I'm very happy when I get them. I always tip as well. I don't really do a percentage or anything. I just kind of decide on a number of bells and go with that~.

i tip people whatever i got from my last batch of turnips cuz they were nice enough to let me in and i should at least pay them back

i opened my town for turnips once and i got some tips. didnt really care if i did or didnt get any tho

I once saw someone make the rules of 2mil tips if want to enter and sell turnips at price 500+. Is terrible but that's how they want it knowing someone entering their town to earn bell. But I hope they don't call this 'tips' is commission you want someone to pay for using you as middleman.

I always put that tips is not necessary but when someone do,it really heart warming and I truthfully thanks them for it.

I think it's rude to force someone to pay! I always give at least 10k in tips in any trade, or else I'd feel terrible. xD It leaves me in awe to know people like these exist.

Whoa, people make you pay tips for selling turnips?

That's kinda gross. Why not let people sell there because you're a nice person?

Oh wait I know the answer to that one hahahahahaha

they can do what they want, honestly i think most people are expecting a tip but are just trying to be subtle about it.
i always tip though, usually a million at minimal

I hate the idea of mandatory tipping.

Any tip I've gotten has been because the person wanted to and not because I asked for it whatsoever. It might sound rude but I don't think I'd ever do business with somebody who forced you to tip. Feeling forced to tip is honestly very awkward and uncomfortable in my opinion.

I suppose tips are expected in certain contexts, like tipping a waiter or a bellboy...

...but that being said, I never charge tips. I generally like it nicer to know I helped someone and made them smile a little more, than knowing I completed a successful business transaction (not that that can't be fun). But when you expect nothing in return, every little act of kindness suddenly becomes an overwhelming joy to your heart.

But I do understand, if someone should like to make a business out of it, charging for such services. I've just usually found I have no need to!

I suppose its etiquette. I know some people who refuse to take tips though, haha! I believe you just came across a bad egg.

If someone is going to expect payment, that's not a tip and could probably qualify for harassment if they force you to. It's not like tipping servers in restaurants in real life, these people chose to open their town and do not suffer consequences they're not prepared for from the lack of a tip.

I appreciate tips but don't require them. I think it's rather rude when someone spends half an hour in your town, getting millions of bells and only leave like 5,000 or nothing at all. but I never say anything :p

Agreed!

I've never asked for tips or payment for anything unless I was explicitly selling it. If people want to leave something, fine, but I'm capable of making of my own bells and if time is seriously an issue, I just won't invite people in at all. If I know someone is having a hard time earning bells, I'll flat out refuse it in any situation.

I do always tip when I'm the visitor though. If I'm selling perfect fruit or turnips, I start at 10% then go up based on how much time I've taken from the host. If I'm making multiple trips to my locker, I'll go up to 15 or 20%. But, like I said, I've always thought of it as paying for the time or inconvenience.

I think tips are nice but I wouldn't ask one if I was simply letting somebody into my town to do their own thing. Especially since I only let people in when I'm already playing so it's no trouble on my end!

If they ask for a tip, that's a fee...and I've never gone to those towns to sell turnips. There are lots of other nice people that don't charge a fee, and I'd rather give a tip to them than a fee to someone less generous. I guess when it's a tip I feel good about giving it, when it's a fee, I feel kind of stingy. It's weird. o.o

I don't make tipping mandatory but I do appreciate it :} I have it in it giveaway threads that tips are appreciated but not mandatory. it's not like I have an endless amount of in game bells (I only have like...50mil left and I used to have 150m+) and things don't come by easily, but I understand when someone's low on bells and they can't tip~ When someone doesn't tip it feels like they're not appreciating (like when I had the KK slider song cataloging), I guess they don't realize the time and effort I put into setting those up :o

However I think it's up to the host. An analogy would be a restaurant making a 15% tip mandatory. I mean it's not wrong, but I guess it takes away the customer's freedom to tip what they want based on the service I guess.

ANYWAYS, I will never make tipping mandatory but I do feel sort of (sad? disappointed?) when someone doesn't tip especially for big prizes or services ;-;

wait, so people don't tip in hybrids that much? i always give the hosts blue pansies but i've never heard of tipping with a percentage in animal crossing before. should i stop?

Just a question, are tips expected for villager giveaways?
I've gotten two dreamies absolutely free and I did not even think about tipping! Oh no! I hope I wasn't rude to two nice people!
