Are there DIY or Nook Mile items villagers will actually interact with?

Cause I had none so far, I have the Teacup Ride and no one seems to be using it. Is there anything "theme specific" for example a peppy villager would like "insert something/item here* or are most things ingame you can place there just to show off.

They'll use the Snack Machines and Espresso machines

I think they can interact with anything that has a "click" mechanic. I had a bamboo doll outside and very often villagers come and click the bamboo doll and wonder at the little thing. I also see them sitting on anything resembling a chair or a bench.

I did notice that, could it be that the Teacup Ride is placed wrongly?
