Today is the 1st day of them in the North... So far I've seen 3 on my Island. 1st one runs into a brick wall and disappears as soon as I take my net out. 2nd one jumps into the river and just now the 3rd one ran into a tree and disappeared.... Do they normally commit suicide as soon as you pull your net out? I figured they'd be like Tarantulas but dang, these suckers kill themselves within 10 seconds of spawning...

Oh my, that's very strange. I just encountered my first scorpion and it was like trying to catch the tarantula! I just had to creep up until I was close enough to catch it with my net. It happened to spawn right outside Dom's house as I was leaving haha

I saw two Scorpions tonight. One I was about to catch, but my controller glitched out (thanks!), so I swung the net way too earlier and got stung.
As for the other one... um... well... have this video. Look on the upper left side of the screen above the roof of the house.
They definitely has some... unique spawns.

I know how to catch them and I just now had # 4 run into the side of a cliff and disappear..... I guess I'm glitched out or I am getting the suicidal ones to spawn.... As soon as I see them, they are killing themselves. No chance to get net out or even approach them..
They have a tendency of jumping on the water pretty frequently. It's also common for them to flee (even if it looks like they're committing animal seppuku) if you're not with your net out.
But they're very easy to catch, easier than the tarantulas.

I'm SH, and they will usually plop into the rivers or ocean because I don't know. They can also get stuck in cliffs and you'll see their tails sticking out.
You just gotta whip out your net fast and close enough for them to see you and do their little jazz hands at you before they blitz into another dimension.

Pretty much exactly what mine are doing.. Spawn and poof..
They spawn and immediately run into something and disappear... I've caught well over 200 Tarantulas so I have no problem catching them as long as they stay for more than 10 seconds....
I think they are broken... I usually only get one or two Tarantulas a night but so far I've had 4 Scorpions... Of these 4 though none lasted long enough for me to even get my net out before they went poof...

After playing for 10 minutes I found one last night and caught it. Walked out of the museum and it was moving around the red pansies. It was 135am and it was hard to see it. It was close to the river and than I couldn't see it. I thought it disappeared but swung the net just in case. I was surprised that I caught it and never saw it do anything.
In ACNL the scorpion showed itself and than ran to hide in flowers.

Right?! I've played since WW, so neither Tarantulas nor Scorpions really startle me anymore. But this actually made me jump. In that split second of seeing this dark, moving object in the air, I thought the AC devs added like Minecraft-esque Phantoms that spawn in at night and were going to destroy me, haha.
Also, I'm loving the thought of scorpions doing jazz hands. Amazing.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to write a letter to Buck. I don't know to break it to him that his rooftop may be infested with scorpions.
Oh dear. I haven't gone Mystery Island hopping in a while, so I'm not sure if they now spawn Scorpions? If so, maybe you could clear out one of those Mystery Islands? Or if you have some empty space on your island you haven't developed yet, maybe you could try clearing out a small space, no buildings, no water, nothing, and hopefully you can get a safe spawn?
I got the real (no clearing needed - 5 spawn at a time non-stop) Tarantula Island last night with NMT and cleaned up with 39 of them in about 15 minutes... That's my 3rd time getting it.. I've also cleared Bamboo Island twice to spawn them.. Yes Scorpions will now be spawning on NMT Islands but it's not really that big of a deal... I only want 4 of them for now. 1 for Museum and 3 for FLick so he can make me a model.. I have 65 Tarantulas in storage right now waiting on Flick to show so I can sell them...
