Are blue roses just a big joke in the game, or can you breed them without using cheats? I have been trying for three months now and it has been rough. Has anyone ever bred them?

I've bred many.
Breed an orange rose using a yellow and a red rose.
Breed a purple rose using two white roses.
Breed the orange and the purple rose.
Keep any red rose that comes from them, as that is your hybrid red.
Destroy or move any other orange or purple that spawn, as they don't have the proper parents, so remember your planting order with the orange, and the purple.
When you have two hybrid reds, plant them, and use fertilizer.
Time travel helps, as it can take a while to get your blue rose, but you WILL get it.
Once you have two blue roses, they breed very easily.
Also remember your hybrid red planting order, and disguard any red roses that spawn from your hybrid red.
They are useless.

but I've learned that breeding hybrids is really fun and addicting so I'm doing it anyway! But I'm also in the same boat of not having much luck with the blue roses. I don't even think blue roses would fit in well with my town but I feel like it's something to accomplish.
Badge guy should have made up a badge to hand out for hybrid breeding they could of easily called it the botanist bade!

yeah they should get rid of the ridiculous street pass badge and replace it with a botanist badge!
I TT'd every day for about a week before getting one, and I was TT'g about five days worth each day.
I started to doubt myself, until I saw it there one morning.
It's a good feeling when you finally get one, especially if you've done it from scratch. ^_^

It took me MONTHS - at least 3 months in game to finally get the first blue rose.
The struggle is real.
It takes luck and patience.
I will say that having a secret beach does tend to help a bit more in case the animals are planting red roses in your hybrid rose gardens.

I wouldn't use the secret beach.
It's very small, and also I've had villagers spawn there.
When I had Rooney, he was on my private beach, walking into the wall.

I totally see your point - it seems some of my towns with a private beach has more villagers spawn more than others.
When I grew my first blue rose, it was in a town with a small private beach and no one ever walked there.
I'd love to have more data of people as to where they grew their blue roses! *others please share your data *

Really wish that badge existed! That's a really good idea, actually! They should have that instead of the Street Pass badge, which some of us (like me) in rural areas will never ever even get bronze. It bothers me because I have all other badges, mostly in gold, but that spot is empty. Grrrr
I mean, the villagers were actually on the private beach.

I've had them spawn inside a garden that was totally fenced off with bushes. LOL
I got my first blue rose in a semi fenced off garden I made near a cliff. ^_^

This area in my town is probably one of my greatest achievements playing AC. Once you get two, they really do spread like wildfire. Just remember that only a certain number of flowers can breed each day, so only water what you absolutely want to breed...especially keep watch if you're on the beautiful ordinance since villagers water flowers too. If you want some blue roses from my garden, feel free to send me a PM!

I've been trying for a few years. I have to go after the golden watering can. I assume the can makes a difference.
The golden watering can does nothing, when it comes to blue roses.
It's purpose is to turn wilted black roses into gold. ^_^
