Approval Rating: NEVER fish up any garbage

So,

My approval rating is at 79% and Isabelle has told me numerous times that I need to fish up some garbage and sell it to recycling. Well, I only seem to catch fish (normally this would be a good thing).

Is there a trick to catching some garbage? I'm desperate to start developing my town!

Spend 1 hour fishing. I'm currently at 71% and she's telling me the same.

"Luckily" you'll encounter cans and boots and all those things.

I just kept talking to my villagers like mad until eventually it got to 100%. They'll ask you to do favours and stuff which earns you points. Other things you can do are:

- Write on bulletin board
- Send letters
- Change town tune
- Change Town Flag
- Garbage (as far as I know there's no trick to getting it, it's just random)
- Put furniture up in re-tail

You don't have to only fish up garbage you can do other things to get the approval rating up.

I found writing all your villagers a letter and giving them a gift (fruit is fine,or 100 bells) attached is much more effective. The garbage is a waste of time, IMO. I usually say in my letters:
Friend
friend
present
friends

The villagers LOVE it and typically half will send a present back.

Hello! Follow these steps:

*A- Procure the starter house (not sure if paying it off plays a role, but I did so).
*B- Design a new flag. (@ Mayor's Office)
*C- Mix a new sound theme for the town. (@ Mayor's Office)
*D- Donate a fossil to the Museum.
*E- Make a statement on the Bulletin Board.
*F- Sell an item to Re-Tail.
G- Complete quests for neighbors.
H- Pull all the weeds.
I- Pickup & send all trash to Re-Tail.
J- Water EVERY flower.
K- Write letters w/ a gift inside for each neighbor, including the new resident. (mailed @ Post Office)

*Note: Obviously, some of these actions obviously affect your Approval Rating only once.
