Anyone know how to do the camper trick?

So I heard that there was a way to change who is in the tent without time traveling? Biff is in the tent right now, but I kinda want someone else to move in. Can anyone help?

This is the trick I use. o: Not sure if there's any better ones, but.

If you already played as Mayor, it won't work. It has to be on a new day where you haven't played yet.

Click 'New Save File,' go through the boring cutscene with Rover & all that. Go to your campsite, if there's a camper that you like, save your game & just delete that new character's house after.

If you happen to not like your camper, just Power Off and repeat those steps. It's real tedious and time consuming, especially since there aren't always campers in your tent. But, it's useful. This also works if you think a new neighbor's coming in. c:

No. The first load game of the day has to be with a new character or the trick won't work. Once you've loaded the game as Mayor and it's after six in the morning when the new day sets, you can't expoit the trick until the next day. It will not make any difference if you quit without saving once you've loaded the game as Mayor.

when you make the new save file the game wont let you save until after you talk to Isabelle, go to tom nook, set up your tent, then talk to Isabelle again. so you can reset at any point before talking to Isabelle the second time to restart the game without saving

Is there any way of knowing if you're going to have a camper?

The chances of having a camper are higher when you have 8 of fewer villagers. It is likely though, that you will be resetting for a plot reservation rather than a camper since the next day with 8 or fewer is typically a new comer. However, if you have 9 villagers, it is completely random. You could reset 40 times and see no tent (with extremely bad luck - not the Katrina kind). However, in most cases, if you are Time Traveling or resetting, the 10th time typically spawns a camper.
