O M G this is so frustrating!!
Please tell me that I'm not alone, this is becoming such a nightmare, hitting rocks has just become impossible, digging stuff takes me three holes sometimes, countless times I'm selecting the wrong option in dialogues. Even just walking around is so so painful
I don't wanna spend the 60+£ to buy new joyconssssssss aaaaaaaaaaaaa sometimes I just want to throw my switch out the window
Yeah I know that feeling! I have my switch for approximately 4 months now, and what I do is use a little bit of 99.8% alcohol solution in the joycon that is drifting, spin it for like 2.5 minutes and then let it rest until the alcohol dries. Works like a charm, and helps me with this frustration that is the joycon drift lol.
(from all the time I had these joycons, I used this alcohol method 2x now.)
I don't have New Horizons yet, but... yes. I have two sets of joycons and all of them are drifting now. Making a level in Super Mario Maker 2 was pretty painful and in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, I can barely use items because my character uses up tilt attacks instead.
I plan to get New Horizons next month and I am really dreading the nightmare of joycon drift.
I feel you lol. It began to surface just a little after I played animal crossing. I did try the isopropyl alcohol and contact cleaner method, it minimized the drift but was not completely gone though....
This is why I play on the TV as much as possible. I bought this dongle that works with most controllers and it was totally worth it. My trusty PS4 controller keeps me sane.

I had this happen and it was awful! I managed to order new joy cons (despite lockdown), but before that I did something that helped that was recommended by another user here. I switched the joysticks in the controllers menu (so that my left joystick, with lots of drift), would become my right one. That way I started moving my character with the right one instead. It was a bit rough at first but I started getting used to it!
It’s nice to hear that that’s common and thx for such great advices, I’ll definitely try switching my left with my right cause i don’t have alcohol rn!
It's called the 8bitdo wireless bluetooth dongle. I did some digging and apparently Xbox 360 isn't supported (some people say if you have a bluetooth one then it does).
The controllers I've used with it are PS4 and Wii U pro, but I prefer PS4 because the Wii U pro doesn't have a screenshot button so I can't capture videos with it.
Occurred around 200+ in. I tried the alcohol method, the duster/compressed air method. Those are all good for a game session or two but the problem eventually came back. I ended up buying a joy con/stick replacements (2 pack) from Amazon and performed the swap out. The replacement was around $15 dollars or so for two and it was pretty straightforward. I used instructions provided on ifixit as the pictures was of high quality and the instructions themselves were great. In the end, it was cheaper than finding/buying brand new joy cons.
I have 8 joycons, 6 of which have very severe drift, I've given up and only play my switch docked with a pro controller. But even those didn't last, the splatoon controller I had, the spring on the left joycon just disappeared after 300+ hours on ACNH and 20 hours on Project Diva so it gets stuck when moving around and the official pro controller I have won't charge and keeps dying even when plugged in. Caved in and bought two of the K.K. Slider pro controllers and so far its been okay, I just hope it lasts since I play extreme levels on Project Diva.
I've never used my joy cons prior to New Horizons release, I never used my switch in handheld either, I now have joy con drift too, they're awfully designed.
Yeah right?? And it's not like they are cheap! It's really not acceptable to pay 69£ and even more to have controllers that last a ridiculous amount of time
In some countries Nintendo is very lenient and replacing them for free. Might be worth checking out. I believe after 3 years of these problems being known Nintendo should have fixed it already and should now be giving everyone free replacements.
I feel for people with a Switch Lite, being unable to keep a backup of your ACNH save file or transferring it, when the Switch Lite is also plagued by JoyCon Drift. Nintendo is such a weird company sometimes...
I've been living with drift for like half a year. It really feels like I'm fighting with my joy cons and sometimes it gets really bad that I get a thumb cramp trying to push it forward, hahaha. It's such a chore to hit rocks and to terraform because we just moon walk to another direction. It's also a game of russian roulette every time a villager asks to move out. I think the worst though is designing a room with drift. It just feels SO hard to properly select the item you want and place it in the right place without it sliding to the very end of the screen. I really need to get mine fixed or replaced but it's still somewhat playable so I always procrastinate.
Bruh I had a drifting joycon for almost 2 months and I always smashed my switch to pieces a few times playing AC T-T esp at dodo when it would say ‘never mind!’ After I went through all the prompts to fly for a trade. Sadly nothing worked to fix it and I bought a new one from a friend. :/
i have four sets of joy con and all four left joy cons drifts to the left!!! ACNH doesn't frustrates me as bad as smash or other precision games. When I don't want to deal with it I use the pro controller. ;p
there was also discussion of a class action law suit against nintendo before the pandemic.
I suggested this on another thread thinking it was a dumb idea, but the guy I suggested it to was appreciative so I'll repeat it here lol:
if you want to switch which joycon does the moving and which joycon moves the camera, you can go to your switch settings > controllers and sensors > change button mapping > change > control stick settings
and then change each joystick to the opposite side
this would be painful in a lot of games, but I tested it out myself in animal crossing and it's not too bad. not as comfortable as regular controls, but it's definitely acceptable and it works as at least a temporary solution for drifting. if you'd like you could also change the button mapping and swap the <^>v buttons with the XABY buttons to make it feel more like how it would normally feel lol.
