So when the game came out I played OBSESSIVELY for like 2 months. I got every non seasonal diy recipe, created a villager trading empire on Nookazon, everything. Then I had a bad trading experience, got overwhelmed with island planning and just... stopped. I’ve been itching to play again, but I haven’t even touched the game since before swimming was introduced.

I’m afraid to boot up the game and be overwhelmed with new additions and the chore of landscaping, but at the same time I just want to run around with cute animals again and maybe trade (last I played NMT were pretty valuable still lol).

Anyone else in the same boat, or has anyone recently started playing again? I kinda wanna restart, but no way I’m going to go through everything again. I wish Nintendo let us have multiple towns!

Sorry for the rant, but I have such mixed feelings rn haha. ^_^;
I need moral support!

I played nearly every day from release day then between the fall semester starting and some really bad joycon drift I completely stopped in late June (a little before the diving was introduced). I was also a little burnt out from furnishing my island (which felt like way more work than landscaping to me). But I finally picked the game up again last week and have been steadily adding furniture here and there (and ignoring all the random flowers everywhere)

Glad I’m not alone! Honestly I think landscaping my island is the biggest thing scaring me. I have so many ideas, and already restarted once before. I can just never seem happy with it haha.

Island designing can feel like a race with so many amazing screenshots and tour videos shared on social media. I actually enjoy taking my time designing my island and redesigning areas when I don't like the look of them. It also helps if you play in shorter sessions and say I can just continue to work on this tomorrow. The game isn't really going anywhere.

100% this. I stopped looking at island pictures on twitter and videos on youtube after the first week cause they quickly went from inspiring to depressing. Our islands aren't going anywhere and the developers are still making updates every few months so there's no rush to "finish" our islands any time soon. Just keep chipping away at it at your own pace 😊

also congrats on getting your last sheep! 🐑

Not in months but three days, after playing everyday, but I think this game is really forgiving and you can stop for a while, without losing anything, just prepare to clean weeds.

You all make some good points, no matter what my island will still there and it only matters that I’m happy with it. It’s just so hard to remember!

I stopped playing for a few months because I was really unhappy with my island, didn't like the layout, villagers etc & I find landscaping tedious & stressful but I've restarted my island & enjoying it so far but was disappointed that to use the dream suite you have to have a paid subscription as the dream suite was one of the reasons for me wanting to start playing again. To be honest having so many features behind a pay wall for an already expensive uncompleted game is putting me off & I'm worried that with new updates coming they might only be available through a paid subscription.

I stopped playing for MONTHS and have just picked it back up. I ended up resetting my island due to how uninspired I felt, and needed a fresh start. Now I have some good ideas and am slowly working my way back up to where I was at before I reset!

I played for the first month probably straight through without a break even while at work. Now I go occasionally 1-2 days without playing, and I take breaks a lot and doing a slower pace, and not playing while at work. I think I was a bit overwhelmed at the beginning, and now I’m taking it slower and while it’s taking me forever to get things done, I’m actually liking how it’s turning out.

you’re not alone! i haven’t played properly since dreaming + the firework shows were added. in terms of new features, i’m not that behind but i don’t see myself catching up before the fall update drops which is uh,,, overwhelming lmao.

but thankfully, animal crossing is a forgiving game and so instead of looking at it as a whole, i find that taking it one day at a time is less stressful - everything, new and old, will be waiting for us whenever we decide to pick up the game again c’:

I never stopped playing since launch. Although, I have to admit that my activity is going downhill recently because of the lack of customers in my shop! :D Nevertheless, my tip here is to play the game on a daily basis and only spend a few hours. Don't accomplish too much! Otherwise, you will run out of things to do.

I swore to god that my activity will spike up if Nintendo doubles up my storage space.

I’ve played almost every day since March, but sometimes it’s literally just for 15 minutes to check the shops/NPC visit and gift villagers things.

Please don’t feel pressure to landscape/terraform quickly and take it at your own pace. You don’t have to do anything at all if you don’t feel like it! Everyone plays the game differently and gets different things out if it.

I have bursts of inspiration that make it impossible for me not to create something once I have the idea in my head. But then, after I’ve finished that particular project, I’ll take weeks off actually changing anything on my island at all.

Honestly, I don't think they added enough to be overwhelming. I've been extremely UNDERwhelemed by the additions. :/

The most substantial additions have been diving, art, a few new NPCs, and dreaming. It sounds like a lot, but it's not. Not really.

You haven't missed anything then. Dreaming was the last update excluding patches.

Just read the title and had to say ME. I haven't had time in a while and the very thought of weeding, chatting to villagers, catching up on past events and having to go ahead with terraforming etc makes me not want to go back on. The chore of landscaping is probably the biggest issue, I never feel like I can just chill with my villagers and go shopping like I could in past AC games because there is always so much to be done around the island instead and not many shops. Anyway, luckily I went on a couple of times for the fair events and did some weeding + got the heart boppers from the fireworks

In past games the only thing I feared was random villagers moving out. I’m glad I can return without having to worry about this and pick up where I left off. Yes, I do have a lot of seasonal things to catch up (have not found a single acorn or pine cone yet lol) but it’s not that overwhelming to me since I’m fine with taking that part of the game slowly, or even buy them if I have to. I’ve already kind of rushed through terraforming though. Part of me is actually excited to tear down areas to redo, but because it’s been so long since I’ve played, I keep coming back to my island and thinking “this looks nice” and delay my redo plans again and again. The only reason why I haven’t played much is because there’s not much to terraform and island designing is my biggest part of the game, but I’m still too scared to destroy what I’ve already done.

i'm definitely struggling a bit!! after playing so intensely for months on end during lockdown the burnout hit hard. there was a short period of time at the beginning of september where I picked up the game a bit and did a bit of redecoration just because the change of season made everything look different and refreshed it a bit. since going back to school I haven't really had much time to play but I definitely want to ease myself back in and finish off the last few blank areas of my island. perhaps the autumn update (whenever that comes out) will be enough to kick me into gear!

as for resetting I definitely have hardcore considered it a few times, but I feel like I want to 'complete' my island and get all the nook miles achievements and everything before starting it all again. at the moment I want to reset just to have something different, as opposed to genuinely wanting to start from scratch if that makes sense?

Considering I just started my hiatus from this game, I hope that I don't feel this way when I eventually go back to it, lol.

I played like crazy when the game first came out where I spent almost every waking moment just playing this game o: but around July, I started slowing down and playing a bit less each day. I also started going back to work so I had less time to play anyways and then I got swamped and took a brief hiatus for a couple weeks.

this was around late July so I didn’t miss too much going into August since that update wasn’t a big update. I’ve been playing a lot less now esp with new games coming out so I’ve been focusing my time more on those.

I’m not too afraid for when I get back into the game since I already have all the DIYs except the rest of the seasonal/zodiac ones we haven’t gotten to yet and I haven’t planned how to change my island for the upcoming colder seasons yet. But I’m sure I’ll feel a bit overwhelmed when I see all the weeds & flowers I need to clean before terraforming 😅
