Anyone else not getting new bamboo shoots?

I was wondering whether everyone else is also not getting any new bamboo shoots around their bamboo trees? I've had mine for so long now, but nothing..
Is there a way to make them produce shoots like in New Leaf?

No, they only produce one in their lifetime if they grow from a shoot. If they don't and you planted fully grown ones you got from the mystery islands, they never reproduce

I believe that the way it works is you plant a shoot, and then you get 1 back when it grows. Never produces beyond that, so you don't actually gain shoots from farming sadly

reason is cause in New Leaf they would spread way to fast

it was ok though because they sold for 750 bells a pop. I was so disappointed when I found this out, because I was looking forward to farming bamboo.

I thought they spawned after it rained. Maybe the timing of when they fully grew and the one time it rained on my island just aligned.
