anyone else kind of worried about using the dream suite immediately?

Not sure how it works but shouldn't it be like when you visit a person through the airport? (As in set items are in place and dropped items can be picked up, possibly go to shops and interact with villagers)

As some other people have said, I went to plenty of hacked towns in new leaf, and I'm talking HACKED and nothing ever happened to my game to data or anything. So I'm not worried about that and more or less kinda excited to see if someone has some cool islands like that. I also played with people in new leaf that hacked on the southern island, this one guy was holding a frying pan one time and I was like and still even playing with people that hack, my data was always fine

It wouldn't mess up the victim's game but the other person would like turn the entire dream town into their own, right down to even the player characters. I don't remember the details (and probably couldn't discuss them here) but it had to do with cheats, not a save editor or anything like that. I don't know if hacked Switches have reached that level of access yet but they probably will eventually.

Yep, it happened to me with my AHS town. It was very upsetting, and I pretty much stopped playing New Leaf after that.

I’m really scared of hacked islands. Hopefully people have the decency to give us a warning that their island is hacked if they post their dream address.

Are there any island hacks other than items like star trees? I don't think people can change the geography or layout of the island yet, which is the only thing I imagine could cause problems. In NL some heavily hacked towns would occasionally freeze/crash, but that's because things were very much out of place (like the town underwater, etc). These had no permanent effect on your game and you'd just need to exit out.
Actually I remembered in NH there are glitches like planting trees on the edge of the cliffs, and adding inclines that do not show on the map. I think it'll be fine, though.

going to hacked towns via dream suite in NL don't cause any issues at all so going to hacked islands shouldn't cause issues if anything it'll help with the in-game report system since it sends pictures to Nintendo

I am curious how long it will take for the first towns to be uploaded and available in the dream suite. Do you think Nintendo will have some default random islands ready to go when the update drops?

Probably the official Nintendo DA. They had one for NL. And it will probably have more goodies since they can just put them in. Who knows maybe someone will be able to find something that hasn't been updated in the game yet but the official Nintendo island has.

If the dream island really does mess up to the point of crashing the game, I don't see how that could ever affect your save file.

I do wonder if Nintendo is going to check uploaded islands for unobtainable items and invalid objects, since you would literally be handing your hacked save over to them. It sounds exactly like the petty yet effective kind of measure they would take. We'll see!
