Everything was okay on my island for the longest time, y'know, very fluid and everything. But then, one day, I set up a Fake Gallant Statue and I noticed the frame rate dropped significantly every time I ran by it. No big deal, though, that's just one statue...

Except I also recently decided to make my own "Urban Japanese style market street" thing based on the one that got passed around a lot on social medias a little while back and, well, since I added a crap ton of items to that, I feel like it's been hurting the frame rate on my island something fierce.

I get that we're maybe not meant to stuff a full segment of our island with a ton of stuff but I wouldn't say no to a little optimization. I think they patched something like that for Breath of the Wild at some point and severely reduced loading times?

My island is far from being complete, so no, it’s not laggy at all. I think it might be lagging very slightly by my Egyptian like market place though.

I visited dizzy bone’s dream and a few other dreams that looked pretty complete and it was extremely laggy (so bad that I got nauseous one of the times I visited it).

My guess is that it’s the urban area that’s creating a lot of the lag. It’s true one statue might seem like it wouldn’t add much, I think - though I could be wrong, it could still be contributing just enough to make whatever the frame rate was drop just enough to cause significant lag.

It's pretty unfortunate if that's the case 'cuz I really love the urban market street thing I'm building, it's not even complete but I really dig it and probably won't get rid of it unless it, like... actively makes the game crash outright XD

That hasn't happened to anyone yet... Right?

it could very much be the contributing factor to you getting lag. i've been on several cottagecore islands from twitter who fills their entire island to the brim of making it claustrophobic inducing and it lags like no tomorrow. the way items loads in and out of frame also lowkey makes me feel like i'm having a seizure lol..

It hasn’t happened to me yet. That’s a shame that there is so much lag. I love seeing people’s market streets/marketplaces (can’t wait until there is more items in the game ). I can actually tolerate a degree of crampedness.

My island isn’t complete yet, since I reset (for the tHIRD time) but I never got any lag. Maybe I just didn’t place enough items, to experience lag or even frame rate drops, but...

Yes it does have mad lag in my game, every time I pass by Raymond’s house in my game, my game stutters really bad because there’s too many flowers near his house.
Theres also other areas as well due to many flowers.

Wait, just flowers cause the lag?! I also have a crap ton of those all over my island XD I'm so screwed man...

I've made a street market area a while ago, but I had to take it apart because how laggy it became. Too bad that I'm really into the kind of cluttered look on my island. I tried to limit the number of items I use to decorate but I always go over the limit... (It's still cluttered, I just can't help it)
I've also noticed that my switch definitely runs smoother when it's in handheld mode. Also it's much better when it's nighttime in the game so I've been doing most of my terraforming lately at night.

I really hope Nintendo can patch this somehow... I really don't feel like flattening my island again.

My island is maybe 70% completed. Most of it is running smoothly, but I have a couple areas where my fps is terrible. However there's not that much stuff around to cause those lags. I even tried to delete some furniture/flowers/trees with no result, so I have no idea why this is happening.

omg YES!!
I also have a Japanese marketplace in my island, and my first build of the place had that area lag. I don't think it's that much compared to cluttered cottagecore islands, but the lag was irritating because I couldn't fully enjoy running around without noticing the bit of frame rate drop. Decided to redo my market (here's a pic), it's still a bit laggy which annoys me since it's more spaceous than it was before.

I hope they patch something that lessens the lag.

Yeah & I havent even started decorating yet and im not kidding.. just all the overgrown flowers make me lag

I get why an area filled with lots and lots might cause lag (although it really shouldn't in an optimised game). I try to limit myself regarding items because I can't stand the lag, and I still have an area on my island that gets laggy sometimes. I really don't know why because while there are some items, I feel they are spread out quite a bit and it's nowhere near as much items as in these market areas.

I’ve noticed a small white line that goes across my bottom part of my screen. And I only started noticing it once I had decorated a part of my island to the max. So whenever I run in that area it’s appears. But the line starts to form on the custom path I have on my floor so I don’t know if it’s from having to many times everywhere or the custom path.

I only experienced mad lag back in May when 50% of my island was covered with flowers. I forgot to fence everything and I just kept TTing.

Although recently, I did experience a bit of lag, but only during fireworks.

as much as i love the look of the more 'cluttered' islands, I absolutely cannot deal with the frame rate drop that comes with that. there are one or two areas of my island that sometimes like to lag when I run past, but for the most part I don't think I have enough items in one area to make my game freak out

Yeah I have a friend who let his hyacinths get outta control and they cause mad lag. It was kinda funny.

Large waterfalls, larger items (like the statue) and lots of vegetation can worsen lag.

In my former island this was the area that lagged the worst when I ran by. It was not packed with items, but RS, the waterfall behind it and all the animated trees, shrubs, etc. on top of the game trying to render stuff in the background were probably the cause.

In my current undecorated island I haven't seen lag yet but I see the large NM items like the monster statue pop in at the corner of the screen when I'm running around.
