Hey folks, did anyone here buy Animal Crossing on release day and have they still got the same town now ? It's probably a long shot but I was just wondering how many hours has been put in to the town, and basically why after all this time do you still keep coming back ?

I visited a town yesterday where the Mayor has played over 1500 hours in the same town and I was astounded ! I think I put about 250 hours into my first Town and wasn't really sure what more there was I could do.

Anybody that has been playing for a long (loooong) time I'd be interested to see some pics of how developed your towns are so feel free to post below :)

I do! Termina was started June 9th, 2013. :D

I'm not sure how many hours I've put in - I haven't gotten my gold playing badge yet, so <500.

There's not really a specific reason I still have it, I just haven't felt the need to restart. I like my villagers, my map, and the progression of my town so far. I still have a looooong way to go - I see people who put together beautiful amazing towns in a super short amount of time and it puts me to shame. ;-; I'd like to reach that point one day, even if it takes me years. I still have my catalog to do and a ton of badges to get as well. I guess I feel like if I reset I'd lose all that progress, and I know I'd never play to that point again.

I'll add some pictures tomorrow if I remember. ^.^

Yup. I bought on release day and still have the very first town I started with.

My town (Mirage) is honestly still a big mess, though. XD I can never fully decide how I want things to look.

Yup, I've had my town, Cinnabar, since the UK release date. I've also got 1500+ hours logged and it took me about 16 months for it to feel finished! It's a tropical/zen themed town, and I'm very happy with how it's turned out. It was even nominated in the recent TBT Town Design Fair, which was a big honour ^_^ I'll add a few town pics that I entered for the fair (I won't bore you with loads, but if you wanted to see any more you could visit my dream address in my sig.)

Honestly, I'm not sure if I'll ever be completely 'finished' as I still have a few ideas for some areas of the town, so if I get bored I can always do some new landscaping. Whenever I think I've done all I can, I find something else to work on, like decorating my beach and alternate characters/villager houses! I only have 8 permanent villagers, that way I get to meet new faces and it helps to keep things fresh. I'm also working toward getting all the gold badges, which keeps me active. I enjoy hanging out with my friends in-game, mucking around on the island and such, and visiting other people's towns is fun too. I try not to play for hours a day, as I find I burn myself out quickly that way.

I pre-ordered the game, but it didn't arrive in the mail until June 11 2013. Made my town without really resetting for a map and I've been playing it ever since. I'm still pretty active :)

I've had my main town since about a month after the UK release date. I try to play on it everyday, even if it's only for half an hour, and I'm still not finished with it, I'm not sure I ever will be. I love collecting things and landscaping my town and I have friends who play everyday so there's always someone to play island games or do the stalk market with.

I got it about a week later on 17th June 2013 and I still have the very first town on it to. Last time I checked I did 700 hours on it but it'll be lot more than that now. I got the 500 hours badge within about 7 months of owning the game but I could be wrong.

I didn't really buy new leaf. there was a games promotion in the uk where if you bought 3 games (donkey kong, pokemon mystery dungeon and luigi's mansion) you were entitled to a free game of your choice, and I picked new leaf.

I stayed up 'till 2-3am waiting to download it and I was seriously addicted to it for the following 2-4 months. I've reset several times, as I'm very indecisive when it comes to my town and villagers.

Now I like to create towns, work on them for a long period of time and then once they're perfect I'll start a new town depending on how bored I am with the town.

I got it on the EU release day, and I've reset a bunch of times admittedly but I haven't really stopped playing since then, I just got mad at my maps/where I placed my house etc.

I haven't stopped since then as well

I've switched 3ds three times though. In total I've racked up over 700 hours of gameplay lol

Bought the game on NA release and still have the same town. I picked up a second copy December 2013 but I have resetted that one a few times. I'm pretty close to 1300 hours between the two. I wouldn't say I'm anywhere near done with perfecting my main town so that's why I still play it!

I would have, since I don't like to start over but I didn't buy my game on release day. I got it after. I think it was in July 0f 2013. I'll check when I get home.

Yes. I got my first game one day before the EU release (June 13, 2013), and downloaded my second copy thanks to the Nintendo promotion on the official release day (June 14, 2013). I still have both :) and I still play, although I made my second town so that it's always in spring, so I TT a lot in that one and sometimes neglect it for months. But so far, I've always come back <3 all of my towns are a continuous work in progress.

/edit: I totally forgot to say that I played for about 1000 hours so far (both towns combined) ^^ I'm busying myself with landscaping, working (slowly) on my badges, and just checkin' in on my peeps.

My younger brother had a physical copy at launch, but it quickly wouldn't work in any 3DS systems within 2 weeks.
