Any tips for catching those fast sea creatures?

I can't catch them, they're too fast, how do you all do it? Any tips ?

One thing I think might work is trying to chase them into a corner of the net fence surrounding the island. But I'm not sure if the creatures can still escape through the fence like in New Leaf. (I haven't seen one do it yet.)

But I chased a gigas giant clam and a vampire squid toward a corner and they seemed to kind of "stop" near it like they were confused about where to go to escape me. I figured I might as well try to do that and if they escaped through the fence, at least I wouldn't have to chase the stupid thing anymore. But both times I ended up catching them.

Stop pressing A and swim with the analog stick only. Sneak up on them, it helps

I just swim toward them slowly, without using the A button, and dive when I'm over them. It seems to be pretty effective~

I don't believe sea creatures can go under the fence in this game (like in New Leaf) so cornering them seems to be the most effective option! I caught a gigas giant clam after chasing it for half an hour around my island this way

Yesterday I caught that Gigas Giant Clam by eventually cornering him, but only after chasing him around most of my island (first saw him on the left side, chased him all across the bottom, then up the right, then halfway across the top before I FINALLY caught him

I'll have to try sneaking up on them- that'd be A LOT easier!

Omg I was wondering what those fast ones were. My finger hurt after chasing one for a long while so I gave up lol. Will attempt the tips on here.

Uh...never had a problem catching any of the sea critters. Make sure you slow down and stop pressing A when you get close so they don't get spooked.

I caught the isopod completely randomly without even trying, so now the game will for sure make me suffer twice as hard for the vampire whatever, my only remaining creature for this month

You can press A while swimming underwater holding down Y. I’ve never scared off a sea creature from doing this and you can swim faster than they move.

I just caught a giant isopod by sneaking up on it by swimming slowly, not pressing A. I have yet to catch a gigas but on a thread on twitter they also said to swim slowly up on it first.

Thank you so much. I just tried it with my 2nd player and caught the giant isopod right away. Got the 2 other fast moving creatures to complete her collection for July.
