Hello!! ;7; I?ve never tried to decorate my town before until now, so there?s something I?ve been wondering.. When placing paths down, is it best to put them before moving your desired villagers in, or afterwards? And how do you know what a good place is to put your villager?s house (I know it?s not a good idea to put them right next to your house, the town hall, and retail, etc. ^^) while still having room for landscaping/decorating around it? Sorry if this is a silly question! Since I?ve never done this before, I?m very new to this;;.. so any other tips that you might think are relevant will be very much appreciated! Thank you!;;

After you put paths down, I imagine that if you did it before it'd just leave a lot of opportunity for them to end up in a bad spot and ruin any landscaping.

Put your paths down first! It's very important, cause once you have your paths, you can then decide where the villagers should live. If you do it the other way around, you risk having a great villager in a terrible spot with no option to move them out/relocate them.

I would put paths down first. Since the Welcome Amiibo update, villagers won't move on paths unless there's nowhere else for them to put their house (plot resetting is still a good idea, though, because mistakes and glitches do happen).

I tried it the other way at first, attempting to run paths around my villagers that had plotted randomly, and it was an absolute mess. They decided to clump around my house, town hall and in other bad locations. Luckily, I don't really have dreamies, so I moved the villagers in bad locations out and started over.

If you lay down some main paths first, connecting your major buildings, you should start to get an idea of where you want to place things. Just ignore any villagers that are in the way and fill in those areas when the villager moves out. You can place all of your villagers together, break them up into small groups, or spread them out across the map. It all depends on how you want your town to look in the end. You can plan exactly where each villager will live using patterns and plot resetting to force them into a specific spot or you can let them move anywhere off of your main paths.

If you do it properly, you can start landscaping while moving villagers in as long as you protect the areas with enough patterns. You can't leave any 3x3 space open except the spots where you want the villagers to live. If you decide to let them move in randomly, you'll want to wait to landscape, though, because they could plop their houses on top of all your hard work.

Really??? O: I didn't know they changed this aspect of the game.

Yep, it's not fool-proof which is why I still recommend plot resetting to be certain everything goes as planned, but I've been using patterns to plot my villagers for a while now and it's seriously helpful.

Wow;;, thank you so much for the advice everyone!!! You were all incredibly helpful, I’ll be sure to keep what you all said in mind ^^ thank you!!
