Seriously anyone got any tips I really want this fish!!

I followed these three methods until I caught one myself: lots and lots of bait, run back and forth till you find the biggest shadow, cry.

Might also have a better chance on a island tour.

First, for all fishing, I find it works best to close my eyes and listen for the sound that means the fish bit.

If you find yourself getting psyched out when you find a big fish, tell yourself that it's just another sea bass, which it probably is. Then you might not get too excited and press the button at the wrong time.

Im so glad I'm not the only one who does this!!

Prep in advance with lots of bait. If the shadow doesn’t look big, just toss another bait. Repeat as necessary.

i caught it so quickly without bait so here's how it went: first it must be raining and you have to keep scaring the fish that look tiny. you will know its shadow when you see it, it's slightly bigger than the bass's and you'll be able to tell easily. when you throw the rod and the fish bites, the rumbling of the joycon will tell you if it really is a big fish

sometimes i catch oarfish too but i ain't complaining, caught them both a few times now

edit: forgot to mention it's an ocean fish, you can also find them on rainy mystery island (tried that myself)

Just go fishing in the rain. I've caught so many, that I wouldn't call them rare, but more "uncommon".

What if I play the flute by the ocean.... LOL

You'll need an ocarina, and play the "song of fish"

sweet! i actually look forward to rainy days since they're a 24/7 rain fish... now you want hard to catch? barreleye, they seem damn rare on my island... 300+ bait and nada. i just need 2 more so i can get flick to immortalize them... i'm really curious does the thing glow in the dark like the real fish?

I've had really good luck with coelacanth catching, somehow.

Scare away any fish that aren't big enough. If you think it might be too small, it probably is, but don't risk it if you really want one.
Lots of bait. Lots and LOTS of bait. Just spend time getting a whole bunch of bait.
If you don't have bait or don't wanna make it, just running back and fourth and scaring away every not-coelacanth fish works fine for me!
I've had best luck fishing off the pier, where even if you get a big fish that isn't a coelacanth, its a marlin or tuna (which are leaving at the end of this month!)

WHOA YOU CAUGHT ONE I JUST REALIZED
Well, for anyone else who needs the advice, its here!!
