Well the only villager I even only remotely like from that series is Marty and I couldn't use one single item of any of the sanrio sets since I don't like pink/cutesy things at all, also because I am going for a greek mythology based island and nothing would fit that haha

I so want them back. They were all so cute! Maybe they’ll add them back one day with more Sanrio characters. I also miss the Zelda villagers and the Splatoon villagers, hopefully they will add them back too with updates from BOTW and Splatoon 2. Imagine Marina as a cute Normal Octopus villager. No idea what pearl would be but I have a feeling she would be snooty. But with BOTW there is so many cool choices to choose from, the champions, Mipha would be a a cute uchi octopus villager , revail would be a smug bird villager, Daruk would be a gorilla(?) jock villager, and urbosa would be a a snooty wolf villager I think, either that or a uchi wolf villager, or normal. No idea.

I don't care about any of the Sanrio villagers and was content with the items being in New Leaf, no real desire to have those items in New Horizons. As such, on a personal level, I don't care that they're not in. That said, I would support their inclusion since a lot of other people like them.
