I've once walked into a tent, and I saw this ugly gorilla, didn't even bother talking to it and just left. Like...NOPE.

I've been finding, if you start up the game on a given day, it helps to use a new human character. (That is, if you don't already have all four slots used up.)

Have that new villager arrive and scope out whether there is an animal staying at the Campsite. If there is, see who is inside. If not, start it up again with another new human character and do the same thing. Two, three, four in a row attempts may fail. But then you may get someone. And you can see who it is.

It's a drawn-out, inconvenient challenge. But it doesn't cause harm. You may get some luck to come your way.

But once in a while you can get some good villagers :3 I got Octavian and Chadder from campsite xD
