Animal Crossing NH boring?

Honestly I feel like a vast majority of criticism has come from people who got introduced to the series in NL and liked the more fast-paced feeling of it.

Personally I find that this game is vastly superior to NL. Our culture has become way too focused on instant gratification, and Animal Crossing is a welcome change of pace. I respect Nintendo even more for not stooping to the lowest common denominator and being honest with what Animal Crossing is about. It's not for everyone, and that's what makes it a great game.

My mind is still blown away by the fact you can put furniture outside, move buildings and even landscape! So much more freedom compared to new leaf.

I think Nintendo are updating the game in small increments for each season. Like how the Easter had an update day one. So I think with all of the cheaters time travelers are becoming bored because there's no content yet in those seasons.

Personally i've been enjoying it a lot!! I think a bunch of people are just rushing through a lot of the stuff in it cause we all have a bunch of free time, so it's way easier to get burnout right now :[
I've been purposefully trying to not do a bunch of stuff at once in a day and take my time with decorating and organizing everything..its a lot more chill and ive had a lot of fun with it even if it does take a little longer to get to the same level of progress as everyone else

You dont have to get all 10 at once tho? It's p easy to get 5-6 in one go without any bait, even if it does end up costing some more bells than if you used bait.

Yeah and then the process takes even longer to get the rewards. I don’t want to be having to grind this game for 6hours + or TT to give myself more time just to get all the rewards. -.-

Yeah I have no idea how you can make the claim that the game is empty after just 3 weeks of it being out. Nintendo has stated SEVERAL times that they will add new content continuously, which I think is genius. So people complaining about missing content, give it a few weeks before your final verdict! It's ridiculous.

Animal Crossing has never been about instant gratification, if that's not your jam then it's not the game for you. Easy as that. 🤷‍♀️

That article was pretty funny. :)

I've played every day since launch. I have 100+ hours invested in the game. I opened terraforming a couple of days ago and, to be honest, I'm obsessed. LOL I am not time traveling (not that there's anything wrong with that) and I'm not doing a bunch of trading/buying. I saw a trick to making a lot of bells in a short period of time (using tt'ing) and I thought about it, but decided I'm fine. I make plenty of bells each day to do the things I want/can. I mean, I can only move one building a day and only build one bridge/incline a day. It's all good.

I'm loving this game, but I knew exactly what I was getting into, having played since the first one.

Animal crossing 0/10 'to slow' :D

Take todays fishing tourney. You’ve got 3mins to catch as many fish as you can, though you’re aiming for 10. To even get anywhere close to this goal, you’re going to need bait. So first you’ve got to hunt down and dig out 10 Manila calms. Then you have to individually craft 10 packets of fish bait before you can even attempt the tourney.

Hurray! You caught 10 fish! Brilliant, that nets you 12points. You can exchange them for ONE reward. But wait, there’s 17 rewards in total up for grabs. 0.0

You guessed it. That means you’re gonna have to dig up least 170 Manila clams and make at least 170 packets of bait. And that’s all without taking into account that your fishing rod and shovel will break every 5mins just to keep things interesting!

And that’s just the issues with the fishing tourney. Let’s look at the Sakura event. I grinded for 4 hours a day for five days for Sakura recipes and I have 3 show for it.

Everything in this game is time consuming and awkward. And it shouldn’t be. Especially when you consider that there is practically nothing to other than fish and bug catch. And players don’t even want to do that cause their tools keep bloody breaking!

I'm not trying to get 10/time. I've played 3 times and gotten 4-6 fish each time. I'm not using bait, even though I have some in my storage. I'm not worried about getting all the rewards today. I'll just wait til the next fishing tourney to finish it out. Or the one after that. I couldn't get all the rewards the first fishing tourney in NL, either.

I thought the article was hilarious, personally.

Three weeks of daily play and I'm still enjoying it!

I have to ask is Lobo your favorite? I got him a few days ago and he awesome! He constantly checking out Fuchsia like on the daily + they hang out with each other a lot.

Supposedly there’s only going to be two - one for spring and one for winter. So you’ll probably end up finishing the set a couple of years from now.

I have 265 hours already. I think it’s the best AC game yet. I do hope they’ll add more content though

nvm, this is a comedy piece. i havent has brekfest...lol

He is indeed! He was one of my starter villagers in Wild World and has been my favourite ever since. 😊

I have seen complaints of people being bored that aren't comedy pieces. I'm not bored of the game yet. There are some days that I don't feel like playing a lot, but that's ok. Yesterday I didn't really do anything but log on and listen to KK Slider's jam session. Of course, I accepted that I might not get all the sakura DIYs and that is fine. I'll try again next year and get the rest. I did manage to get my hands on the ones I was hoping for.

Today I am having a blast. I spent 30 minutes crafting about 45ish bags of bait and did three fishing tourneys. Two were with my brother (who I don't think actually slows down enough to read the text and I had to explain to him how it worked), but we had a fun time fishing together. I think it would be fun if I could manage to wrangle my friends to all fish in the tourney together or at least get a group of 4.

I have gone back to play NL two times since NH came out and now I can see how frustrating that game could be. There is the fishing tourney in NL too only I couldn't do any public works projects because Isabelle wouldn't let me. I was playing it before 9 which means none of the shops were open because I prefer the beautiful town ordinance on while I'm not playing a lot so my flowers don't wilt. None of my villagers were awake at that time yet (while at least three were already awake and up in NH). I still love NL, but I find NH a lot more player-friendly now.

I love the game, but I also love Animal Crossing. The hype (and the situation) brought in a lot of new players, New Horizons already sold half the copies New Leaf did, so a lot of people just don't know the genre - and many fans think New Leaf was exactly like the other titles.

Personally, I'm not bored. I'm slowly moving my buildings and getting all my bridges and inclines in order. That alone will take two weeks probably. But I also don't have the time to play all day long, and it hasn't really been a loss with the egg and event dialogue.

Of course I want more NPC and buildings, but I also love playing the game without a goal or incentive.

The Nook Miles achievement that I unlocked today mentioned a fishing tourney in each season. One for spring, one for summer, one for fall, and one for winter with you getting a stamp for each season you play the fishing tourney in.

Great so only have to wait another 12weeks before faffing with the whole tourney again.

Not bored, in fact, I seem to barely manage to do the things I plan to do in a day and I play for loooong hours. I don’t TT though so that may be a factor? I’m currently still in the process of terraforming and decorating my island portion by portion. I’m moving houses and shops where they’re supposed to go as well as building bridges and inclines and collecting resources for some projects I need and scouting furniture to bring my planned areas to life. I like to get things on my own though so I don’t really trade much so maybe that’s also why I’m not bored...I have A LOT to work for, still. Lol.

I have mixed thoughts on NH so far. It's good, overall, but bogged down by a few things such as a lack of certain QOL improvements, the apparent exclusion of a ton of NL's content, and the (IMO) overly long trainwreck of a tutorial.

  • Inability to craft in multiples and no indication of durability (breaking tools is frustrating with how expensive gold tools are and annoying with iron)
  • Tons of NPCs, furniture and PWPs from NL don't return, which is strange to me. I'm sure NPCs will return via updates but furniture and features like exotic fruits, furniture sets (I need my Gorgeous and Gothic series, mmkay?), and diving I'm not so sure about.
The tutorial was way too long and restrictive for my liking, even locking hourly music behind a building upgrade that takes a week or longer to unlock, which I find absurd. Not to mention how it forces you to develop your town somewhat heavily before giving you access to terraforming, which can then be frustrating as you have to move things around just to change up the landscape (I refuse to stick with the default layout when they've finally given us the ability to change it). I know plenty enjoyed it just fine but I hated it and wish it would have been streamlined or just been less restrictive.
  • The max house size is smaller than in NL. I really would have liked to have some room size/shape customization ala HHD but it seems like the focus was more on outdoor decor rather than indoor. The outdoor is great but I would've liked more attention to indoor, it seems like the indoor decor variety has also taken a backseat to outdoor decor. All the more strange with how much more expensive a fully upgraded house seems to be than NL.
  • There are some MP hiccups, namely having to wait upwards of a minute watching people come in. After how much NL cut this down from CF/LGTC, I'm surprised this issue got worse rather than better.
  • Dialogue menus are clunkier than ever and dialogue variety still seems like it needs work (I wish they'd at least make existing lines less likely to repeat on a given day).
  • Lack of MP mini-games, the inability to decorate or terraform during MP and a lack of native voice chat leave MP feeling pretty sparse
  • Tools breaking, while a novel idea, becomes more annoying the deeper into the game you get. There are a few things that need some rebalancing (like tool durability, water egg spawn rate, balloon spawn rate, etc)
On the other hand
  • It looks better than ever, there's so much detail to color and animation. It's mostly small details but it's wonderful to look at.
  • MP seems the most stable it's ever been
  • The music is pretty good this time around, better than NL. Not that AC has ever had bad music, but NL's hourly music was a bit too subtle for me. I still hold PG's more bombastic OST as the best in the series.
  • The number of new tools like instruments and ladders is great and fun to play with.
  • The extra things for villagers to do like singing and running is great to see
  • The ability to choose where everything goes is a godsend and I hope it stays as a permanent feature, same goes for terraforming
  • A lot of the new features are a great addition to the series be it the new path laying system, terraforming, the house decoration system from HHD that was brought in, expansion of indoor storage, QOL improvements such as the tool wheel (though it could be improved by having a separate inventory space for said tools), the outfit swap wands, the expansive outdoor decoration, etc. I really do think they listened to a lot of feedback from CF/LGTC and NL.
I love NH, just not as much as NL (so far). I hope future updates address the various gripes I have, both major and minor but only time will tell. I can understand someone being bored though, at least until you finish out the tutorial and are set free for real. Personally, I don't think NH is boring or even more so than previous entries but it has advantages/disadvantages I didn't expect and takes some getting used to after the (IMO) near-perfection that was NL (it was only missing the higher graphic/animation fidelity, outdoor decor and terraforming of NH). It's good though: 8/10

I did not intend this to turn into a review or whatever this is. Oops.

Edited score slightly down from 8.5. 8 felt better.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be seasonal, so there should be one in summer, fall, and winter, as well as spring.

I'm loving it, honestly I have also been playing my NL save and both games are strong for different reasons.

For the most part, I've noticed that, for the most part at least, those who are unhappy with NH fall into two categories.

a) Those who loved NL and eagerly awaited the new game, only to find out that it is actually a different game and are comparing every little thing to "how it used to be". I'd highly recommend those people return to NL as the board here is still quite active and the game is still very much functional.

b) Those who have never played AC and have jumped on the bandwagon. Primarily this has been within the content creator community that I am a part of. People want to play/stream it because it's popular and will get views/subs. But also those who have heard about it, not really understood it beyond being "a cute little game" and therefore don't really understand that it's not a game you can just grind through and rush.

I have seen a bit of dissatisfaction within longstanding AC groups, and I do agree there could be improvements. But I think people are forgetting that there are many, many things in NH that actually improve on from NL.
