Not really surprised, Animal Crossing fans have been waiting for this game for almost 10 years. Not to mention, even non-gamers are getting into it due to the quarantine. It also makes a great game for kids to play. Just overall the whole pandemic situation has definitely boosted sales.

This is definitely because of the virus, IMO.

I always collect physical editions for Switch. I had a physical copy of Animal Crossing pre-ordered on Amazon. But, due to the unfolding situation, I was informed that my order would be delayed. So, I canceled it and bought the game digitally instead. It's not really something I'm happy about in the long run (now I will need to buy a second copy for my collection at some point...yes, I do this). But, it is what it is.

People who I know who say they'd never play Animal Crossing, or don't like Animal Crossing ended up getting New Horizons. COVID19 definitely played a hand in that.
