Animal Crossing Best Buy Spotpass

I have a question about the Animal Crossing New Leaf Spotpass. If I go to Best Buy can I just walk pass something to get the item? Or do I have to open up my 3ds and connect it? I don't really get how this works. Any help would be great.

I think you have to connect to their wifi and go talk to Pelly.

Hi Mr. Shark! You have to make sure your Best Buy is a Nintendo Zone location. If it is, your Nintendo Zone icon will pulsate blue when you're @ their store. Run the app on the 3DS home screen & when the loading(s) conclude, there should be an option to connect to Best Buy. After a few more loading screens, boot up New Leaf & download the item.
