I have a bunch of black roses planted (about 40 of them) in a checkerboard pattern to grow gold roses. I've been watering them with my golden watering can for several days now and I still haven't gotten a single gold rose! Is there some other requirement that needs to be met to be able to grow them? Or am I just REALLY unlucky?

This is like the 8th day without any results so the chance of it just being bad luck is starting to become really slim but it's always possible I guess...

Are you watering every single rose? Only the flower in the center of the 3x3 tile gets a gold flag for whatever reason:rolleyes:

I forget the exact numbers, but if you are the only one watering your flowers they only have like a 5% chance to hybridize. Which is low enough you could theoretically go a full month without seeing a hybrid.

If you can get other people to come to your island and water your flowers that chance rockets up dramatically per person capping out i think as high as 80% or so for 6 different people watering the same flower.

Wait for real? No I didn't know about this...

Do you have a source of some kind? Been looking for information all over but clickbait youtubers ruined any chance of finding credible sources for this game...

I do it by myself yes, I'm aware of the hybrid chances in normal cases but I don't know if the other players would have to use gold cans as well to make it grow gold roses

I worry that watering with a normal might reset the flag

Same here! If you're available I'll come over later today to water your flowers, Lars, if that helps.

As the guide says, the gold flag only resets when a gold rose is produced, so you should be fine to have others water.

I've had people water my Roses with normal cans after I've watered with the gold and they have come out gold. I dont think you need to worry about it resetting anything.

(Edit: beat me to it, with a credible source no less. ^-^)

also, random extra, if you water your flowers with the gold can, after watering them with your normal can, your gold can will not lose durability
but it will still set the flag

(note that all 9 tiles need to be watered for this to work. if you only watered 6, your can will still use up durability. John austin plays gave this example but mentioned rain instead. difference being that with rain, all tiles are watered. so there is no chance your gold can might actually water something you did not water before)

Wait, so if you water flowers you've already watered it wont decrease the durability of the watering can?
