I just got my last villager photo, I used hanging terrieriums, I know most use iron lamps but liked these better if they used them. Also for some reason had no luck in over 2 weeks prior trying the lamps.

Yeah idk why but villagers (for me at least) always seem to prefer the iron lamps. Maybe they're all secretly moths that are wearing animal suits, and animal crossing is actually a dystopian world where moths reign supreme and also happen to be furries. I know a lot of people also try using gift-wrapped exotic fruit, but from what i've seen (again this is from my personal experience) they don't work as well either. I mean i've got over 16 stacks of spare iron so I don't mind making the iron wall lamps, but I would prefer if there was a cheaper option that worked just as well. While the hanging terrariums sound good, i'm pretty sure they cost the same amount of iron so they're pretty much the same as using the iron wall lamps. Glad you got your last villager photo finally though! Photo luck can be very random at times, so I know the pain of going on a long dry streak for a while.

Why does it matter what u give them? I thought it always gets the same amount of points when gifting towards friendship?? Anyways were all like moths attracted to our switches....

Wall-mounted items are usually given in order to preserve furniture :) Villagers don't hang items afaik (though it can cause them to remove their original wall-mounted decorations) so stuff like terrariums and iron lamps are a popular method if you want to preserve originality.

I've been using the fruit method with no luck so far, though I'm hoping for the best soon. I want to preserve all my materials in the meantime as I'm still heavily building my island 😭 but congrats on the pictures!! <33

They changed the value of the items needed on how to get photos in 1.4 if you didn't know. A stack of two non native fruit can net you a photo of its wrapped so they take the whole stack.

Furniture also gives you more friendship points faster so your chances for a photo go up until it caps out at 10.2%.

I prefer the fruit to keep my villagers original because I give away my cycling ones once I get their photos.

Wall hanging items doesnt preserve furniture furniture if you give them too much. 64 items and then furniture on their walls and on top of surfaces will disappear.

I really wish they would stop changing the friendship dynamics it's difficult enough already. From the beginning I was giving wrapped non native fruit everyday. I got 2 pics that way. Then I stopped getting them and didn't know why. Then I read that they changed it so you could no longer get pics that way. So I started using the stacked fruit method and I got at least 3 pics. Again it has stopped and no one will give me a pic. Now I've read that it's changed again and you can get pics with wrapped non native fruit again. This is confusing and dumb. I have 3 villagers that I should've already gotten pics from but nothing and 2 that I'm working building friendship levels high enough. I guess I can try giving them terrariums or iron lamps cause nothing else is working. And I also think if it's gonna be random after you reach a certain level than at least make it so the chances increase everyday you maintain or raise the friendship level.

I got my 2nd photo today, now have Zucker and Flip. Haven't really been trying until I fill my island with everyone I want. But congrats on getting everyone! That's some very good luck right there.

I was doing the wall furniture method which worked great until I realized the villagers will yank down some of their own. Usually I don't care but I have Julian, Sherb and Tangy which could I could sell later on. But I dunno.

Iron wall lamps gifts has gotten me like 15 ish villager photos?

So I switched to wrapped stacked foreign fruit and I got Pecan's photo today.

What do you mean furniture will start to dissapear after 64 items? I tried to pm you because im actively trying to figure out how to get rid of a table top item in a starter lazy house.. just wanna make sure i do this right..

So, I read the thread about updates to getting villagers photos, but I'm still struggling to get Cyrano's picture. I've gotten 10 other animals' photos, but haven't gotten Cyrano's, and I've had him since early April with no time traveling.

Months ago, I tried iron wall lamps. That yielded me photos from 6 other villagers, and my friendship with Cyrano seemed to be high enough that *any day now* he would give me his photo. But it never happened, and after reading the thread about the updates, I changed to full pockets with a stack of unwrapped fruit, so he'd mail me his photo the next day. Now all I'm getting from him are clothes.

Which method should I be trying?

ETA: I don't care about houses being original, so I'm willing to gift anything.

It’s as simple as that. Fill their inventory with hanging items and they will eventually lose their hanging items and tabletop items. Give them one a day until that stuff disappears. I had heard it was 32 items in their inventory, though. Sharksheep knows more than me, so believe her.

I thought they display wall hanging items though? This is good to know.. thanks for confirming !

I've been using the fruit stack trick, but yeah, hanging wall stuff is the fastest way to get villager photos.
I prefer using fruit, since I don't have much other use for them.

Hold on.... so im geussing you can confirm they get rid of oldest furniture first ??

heh... im trying to follow all these posts but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to my dull lil brain

can someone explain which works better: The wall lamps or fruit? someone told me fruit and ive been trying it for the past few days aaaaand no luck yet (though i wasn't expecting it to work that quickly). I've been wrapping stacks of the exotic kind yes yes

Also I heard that just giving them expensive furniture (like maybe a TV) or clothes (like i crown) can work sometimes

I actually got Sherbs photo because I thought "Oh expensive furniture" (I had given Genji an Apple TV and got his photo) so I gave Sherb like a frikin grand piano and a wall-mounted tv (got nothing from those two) and THEN gave him a wrapped music player thingy and got his photo. good cuz now his house isn't creepily silent lmao

Both the iron wall lamps (wall mounted furniture in general) and stacked foreign fruit are good gifts for villagers.

The advantage of iron wall lamps is they increase friendship faster than the fruit stacks.
The disadvantage of iron wall lamps will eventually cause the villager to remove their original wall/homewares furniture. Villagers have an inventory limit of 64.

That being said, if you don't care about keeping your villagers "original", then go ham on the iron wall lamps.
