After a villager moves out, for instance... my least favorite villager in my town just moved out about two days ago... and another villager has yet to move in, when exactly will another villager come to take it's place? I hate being nervous and having to create a new character every day in order to try for the reset trick.

In my experience resetting for new villagers, it goes like this:
The day the house is gone is day 0, no one will move in. The next 6 days after that there's a low chance of a new move-in, skipping event days. The 7th day there's a much higher chance of a move-in. Not sure how it goes after that.

If it's a 9th villager then it will be random. I've seen them take up to five days to move in.

Agh, I wish it would be 7 days before someone would move in. I had someone move out and then two days later I tried to get one of my dreamies but then someone had already plotted to move i was pissed.
What I posted earlier pertains to having 8 villagers and waiting for a 9th to move in, by the way. It just dawned on me that I should clarify a little. It doesn't apply to getting random wi-fi/streetpass move ins or villagers you invite in from the campsite or another town. Just thought I should mention that.
