Okay, I?m attempting plot resetting without time traveling or QR coding the whole town... started with an alt... the third time is actually a place I?d have chosen given half a chance so I just want to be sure that I understand everything correctly... I visit Isabelle, get Nook to place my fake plot then save and quit. Then open up and kill off my alt and everything is cool as a fair number of cucumbers right?

I did that the first two plots but I like the placement now and so THIS is the time I do the rest to save it? I think so anyway, I’ve just never done it before so thought I’d ask here to be certain.

Exit without saving, yes. Villagers are incredibly stubborn, so expect them to pick the same spot OVER and OVER. They will move eventually, though. Keep at it. But if you like the spot they picked, play the throwaway character as normal, and then save and load your mayor to permanently save the plot. You can then delete the throwaway character.

Here's a tip to make it easier next time: put patterns down every two 'tiles', leaving a 3 by 3 tile grid of where you want plotted homes to go. It will make life MUCH easier, only at the cost of making your town look awkward for a bit.

I did it!!! The fake plot was super easy too because I used the stupid crop circle dirt patch I should have placed my character’s house on but didn’t know any better and so it’s just been setting there barren until I get a windmill or zen bell PWP to cover it and landscape so no harm at all. And now I’ve got to steel my resolve to kick out Pudge with an amiibo card tonight, hoping the new character will take his house’s place... and now I know how to make certain it does!!! I was going to wait until they asked to move but he already did once and then changed his mind saying we weren’t good enough friends yet... My advice to others, get your dream villagers immediately, don’t wait, it isn’t worth the hassle.

I cover my entire town except a couple of spots for rocks to spawn, and the 3x3 plus a space for the door, and I don't need to plot reset.
I only plot reset if the 3x3 is a spot where no villager(s) have previously occupied. ^_^

after saving on the newly made character you can just go back to it on the main menu and request your home be destroyed by Isabelle. everything you did on the alt is saved so you can skip loading the town with the mayor. I did that when I was plot resetting and the villager's plot stayed where it was
