Advice for opening your island for others to come visit!

My island is slowly getting ready to be open for visitors but before I do I have a few people I know IRL coming to see it and they like to run around and take things. I just wanted to know are there certain decorative items that can be taken if they are on the floor getting used as a decoration? For example I have an outdoor cinema on a picnic rug and I have the sparkling drink on the floor next to the seats. Can this item be picked up and eaten?

I know flowers and crops can be taken that is all fine I wanted to know if anyone had info on what decor items could be taken or used.

Or if once they are placed they can not be touched or used.

If you "place" the item then they can't take it, however if you "drop" the item then they can.

Could you perhaps just tell these people not to take anything? If you trust them enough to let them visit, then surely they'd respect you enough not to do something against your wishes. At least I hope that's the case!

Items that are dropped can be taken. If your not sure you can use fences to block off areas you don’t want people going to.

I must agree here. If they can’t be trusted to not take things I would reconsider letting them on your island. A lot of hard work can be disrupted by people who don’t respect your requests.

You can always just give them a dream address.

They have been asking for awhile to come visit and I am too nice to say no.

I’m glad flowers work differently in NH and they don’t die if you run through them. If you do have any money trees on your island you might want to surround them with fences just to make sure they won’t shake them.

If you place items down, they can’t take them.

If you’re anxious about people, you can always let them visit you as a dream address

I agree with a few things:
1) If it is placed, they cannot, if dropped they can. If you're able to "walk" though the items, most of them can be picked up if you think about it.
2) Apply fencing and that can block off areas you don't want them doing anything. (If you have to, make path with the fencing)
3) Dream Addresses are the safest choice here, it will protect everything.

Also, I haven't seen this suggested and based on what I've read, I would not make them Best Friends. If you do, you grant them permission to dig up your flowers/crops/etc. If they are your best friends in the game now, I'd remove them to be safe.
