I'm planning on doing a cycling town in the future, so for the convenience of me, and the buyers, I wanted to know how everyone else who cycles, keeps their villagers original?

Any help is appreciated.

Make sure there aren't low-priced items in Retail, or else, a lot of the times villagers buy them and put them in their homes. I always have seashells in mine priced at 999,999 for the Retail method anyways. They would never buy those. :P

I think that's really the best thing you can do. Everything else seems to be out of the player's control; They change their shirts randomly and even have the same catchphrase as other villagers (There were 3 villagers that had the "quickadee" catchphrase because of Molly...). But if they ask you if they should change their catchphrase and they have one that isn't their original one, you can always change it back.

I've also heard that if they change their shirt, it helps to send their original shirt back to them in the mail a bunch of times (even 10 letters with the same shirt in each one).

- fill retail with a bunch of flowers with the price at 999,999 so that they can't put their furniture up for sale
- make a hat design in able sisters and then display it instead of all of the anytown designs so they can't change into them

these are all I did to keep them original, if you do this and rarely talk to them I think it should be fine. there's always a chance they could pick up a catchphrase from another villager but that isn't a big deal

Just as said above, fill up retail and change the patterns in able sisters. There's no real need for you to talk to any of them when cycling so they won't be able to give you anything (assuming you're following crash' cycling method).
Need any help just give me a message. I'm going to get back into my cycling town at some point now I'm back

fill up retail with random junk for either 999,999 or 1 bell (they think its counterfeit, but id go for the 999,999)

replace everything in able sisters with a hat

you should be good to go after that, catchphrases can tend to get... out of control.

What everyone else has said. My new cycling town I will be right away swapping out Able patterns into hats and blocking all flea market attempts at retail. It helps to not be in your cycling town very long to prevent the animals from interacting. Only be on to check for new move-in and/or camp site or to open gate to allow someone to come talk to villager in boxes. Don't do their quests etc. the cycling guide on here has a lot of great info that helped me! Check it out. :)
Also- I sent Muffy her original shirt and another that I thought would look cool to replace the ducky shirt (I hadn't learned to swap patterns out) and she didn't even put them on. She propped em up in her house ruining her originalness and kept wearing the duck scarf argh! So it's so hard to repair them. Currently trying to fix the house of an Ankha I acquired.

Umbrellas will work too, and you don't have to create a design. I just left mine blank. Also you don't have to set the price for items at Re-Tail at 999,999 because villagers can't buy anything without your permission anyway. Just make sure it's full or villagers will remove items from their house and put them in Re-Tail.

A lot of people have commented on this thread already, but I though I might pitch in too:

Don't do villager favors, unless it's getting fruit or something. I did a delivery to Bam and he changed his original shirt. I sent him another one but he ended up putting it in his house. I guess he liked the picnic shirt better..

Change all of the patterns in Able's to umbrella patterns.

Put a bunch of items up for sale in Re-tail, it doesn't matter if you put 999,999 or not, as long as Re-tail is full of things that don't belong to villagers, as well as not telling the villager to buy anything.

Had heard about umbrellas too. Was paranoid the villagers would use them but they seem to use the actual item umbrellas so that's a safe choice too. The main thing in retail is just to not have space open. Both towns I've had Muffy, the first thing she does is put a piece of rococo furniture in Retail. :(

Some advice to keep villagers original is to put umbrellas in able sisters therefore villagers can't wear those, and in retail just put all of your junk there for an outrageous price (999,999) so animals won't buy it because y'know they're pretty stingy. Also, if you put all of your stuff there that means villagers can't sell their stuff to retail. Another tip is to hold flowers in your pockets because occasionally villagers might give you pieces from their houses while in a conversation with them so if you have flowers in your pocket it prevents them from doing this. Make sure it's not clothing or furniture items though because they'll probably try to buy it and that can get annoying whereas they can't buy flowers.

If they DO happen to change their clothes I learned a cool trick from somebody on here that works about 50/50 but for the most part i've had good results on the first try. At 4:58pm mail them their initial clothing and then wait it out in Timmy & Tommy's until 5:00pm and usually when you've walked outside they'll have changed their clothing back. Although the villager HAS to be outside already for this to work, it doesn't always work though but i've found it's the most effective way.

1. Don't do the villager favors
2. Only put trash/junk in retail and set the price as high as possible
3. Don't send letters with wall paper, carpet, and furniture
4. If they ask you to change their catchphrase, decline.
5. Make all the designs at the able sisters umbrellas.

I hope these tips help!
Some of these quire not being able to get closer with the villagers, but that won't be a problem if you aren't trying to.

Thanks everyone! Also, if you get a villager from streetpass/wifi that was voided from someone else's town, will they come original, or as they were when in the town before yours?
