Advice about trading/giving away villagers?

I really want to change things up a bit in my town and meet new villagers, but I already have 10 villagers. I've been trying to decide which ones I want to keep and which ones I want to move out, other than 4 villagers that I absolutely want to keep. It's a difficult decision because I really love all of them.

I picked a few to move out to start with and nobody seems to want to adopt them. I know they're tier 5s, but they aren't even the most hated villagers of that tier (for example, I've seen a fair amount of people looking for Pashmina) and it's making me sad that nobody wants them.

Does anyone have any advice on making them more visible to people who might be interested in adopting?

I know I can always void them but I'd rather avoid that, since I don't want them to be unwanted move-ins and I like to trade items with people from time to time.

What should I do? I've gotten to a point where I'm considering getting rid of some of my more popular villagers even though I don't have many of those, just because I know they have a higher chance of getting adopted.

Another thing I can suggest is to view the "looking for" thread often. I see a lot of people requesting lower tier villagers in there. If you see someone who's looking for one of your guys, just send them a PM to see if they are still interested. Another issue could be the time of day.

Sadly this place is ruled by that darn popularity thread and a lot of people use that as a guide for which villagers they want.

I have a friend who cycles and hates to void. First, she has a cycling thread so that people can see who is coming up and lurk. So you can create a thread to advertise ahead of time and hopefully have someone waiting. If none of her lurkers can get the villager, she lets anyone from the forums here have them. She's always using the search thread feature to check the "Looking for" thread. If that doesn't work, she would go to the other forums/sites to advertise them. I think she used 3 others when she had to. She's had a very high success rate! Since you have just a few and won't be cycling as quickly, you could also advertise your outgoing villagers in your sig. Oh, this is a great idea! Thank you so much for the suggestion. I'll try to come up with some funny and revamp my post, that might get more attention.

I've been lurking the "looking for" thread, but some of the posts requesting those villagers are old! I'll try PMing people about it, I didn't know that was ok even if the request is more or less old.

The time of day is an issue, though I've been bumping it... the threads in that subforum also move really quickly.

I agree with you with that thread. I don't mind the fact that there are popular villagers, since it's normal that people who enjoy the game would sometimes have shared interests and like those villagers for that reason (for example, I've noticed that lots of people here talk about liking My Little Pony and how Julian reminds them of that. I don't like either but I can understand) but it gets a bit ridiculous when you see old posts where it seemed like the preferred villagers were more or less diverse and compare them to now, where it's the same set over and over.

I don't know if mine would count as cycling, even though I'm trying to move out at least half of my villagers... it's not really as intense as cycling seems to be.

Thank you for those tips I've done the signature thing now, hopefully that will bring more attention to them.
