I know there was a thread like this posted before but I wasn't really a fan of those rules so I decided to make my own. Here's what I'm thinking:

ACNL Nuzlocke Rules:

1. No map resetting. You must pick a map from the first lot Rover offers you.

2. No Time Travelling. You must play day by day. - Variant: If you want to enjoy events irl, set the clock ahead one day.

3. No Plot Resetting. - Variant: You can view the plot but you can't reset for a specific villager.

4. You must donate all your catches, fossils and art to the museum first. Additional rule: Don't use a guide for the art.

5. You must attempt to complete your encyclopaedia, museum, badges, catalogue and unlock everything on Main Street within a year without trading on the forums.

6. No villager can move out until you have received their picture. Additional rule: If a villager asks to move after you have received their picture you must tell them to go no matter what the outcome.

7. No hacking or duping.

I know there are harder rule sets out there that are more in line with the challenge of the nuzlocke but lately I haven't been enjoying the game as much as I'd like (I keep resetting and obsessing over plot resetting etc that just ruins the enjoyment of it all for me) and I thought imposing these rules would make me return to the organic flow of the game (much like the one year challenge did which I really enjoyed before it died off) while still providing a bit more of a challenge.

But yeah I'd love to know other people's opinions and ideas for rules (I'm not looking for an extreme challenge, just a way to get back into the game again) and yeah maybe a few of us could do a challenge like this together?! Yeah let me know your opinions anyways! :)

i've tried something like this loads of times but i just
i CANNOT settle on a map out of my first 4. i'm too picky ; o;

it's a great idea though!

I like the concept of the rules! I tried playing in a similar way earlier this summer and got my 3DS clocked messed up.

I HIGHLY recommend playing like this if you are burned out from too much TT and plot resetting. It is very refreshing!

I am excited to see who wants to join this epic quest!

Yeah I'm the same, I'm ridiculously picky too but there is supposed to be some amount of challenge in a nuzlocke! This would be pretty challenging for me honestly!

Yeah I think it would be good for me! I'd love to do it with other people though, it'd be fun to struggle together! :p

There's no way I'd be able to do this XD

I'd need to reset my town, which is something I never want to do. And even if I did reset my town, there's no way I'd complete the encyclopedia, museum, badges etc. within a year, because I've had Lumatown for two years and I STILL haven't managed to do it yet!

This is an interesting idea, though!

Yeah hence why I said attempt xP I've never managed to complete anything cause I'm terrible for resetting but yeah I thought it would add an extra element of challenge to see how much you can complete in a year!

I'd love to do this, but I just recently reset and got two dreamies DX If only this had been around a few days ago. I would love to do this when I'm done with my town though. Or I could do it with my first copy, but for some reason I can't bring myself to delete that hideous town that I left in February of 2014. It's so bad XD

I'd probably do this if I wasn't so far along in my town already and with the way I play it isn't stressful. I don't TT or anything like that. I do have a second game but it's in another state right now. D;

Eh hehehehe...
Ah hahahaaa...

If you try this, you'll see what hell looks like.

Good rules tho, seems likea hard challenge.

Hmm I know the Pokemon nuzlocke rules and have played a few myself but an animal crossing nuzlocke is pretty interesting xD

@Hazel (can you tag people in these forums?) will you be doing a nuzlocke run? If so it would be cool to post images and give updates about what's happening in your nuzlocke! / post your nuzlocke adventure in a thread :)

Well if you change your mind I'd love to have someone to do this with! :p

Aw well when you get it back maybe then? :) I'm kinda on the fence about when to do this like I might even leave it till January so there's plenty of time!

when i saw 'no TT-ing'' i know i'm not gonna do this xD

I think that might be one of the more easier rules for me honestly. TT is more of a hassle for me than anything! Handy for unlocking stuff though!

I honestly didn't think it was *that* challenging? Like it is a challenge but I thought people would be telling me to make them harder! :p

I'd have a hard time not map resetting either. If I don't like the layout of a town, I lose interest super quickly.

Yeah tbh I don't know if I'll be able to do that myself, I just thought it would add to the challenge :) I've seen a few youtubers have not so good maps that they picked first time around and they managed to make nice towns so yeah I think we've just a tendency to be too picky. Besides I'm sick of map resetting! Haha

Sorry I missed your reply earlier! Yeah I think so too! Yeah I'd like to, either on my blog or on a blog here. I was thinking if there was a group of us attempting it we could post our progress on the same thread :)

I could follow ALL those rules except for time traveling. Nope, no and nuh-uh, lol.

I followed all these rules for my first town, which I'd had since the beginning and eventually stopped playing, hahaha. I just reset that town very recently, and for me, I've actually changed my self-imposed rules to be a bit more lenient. I went all-out on map-resetting, which was one of the most important things to me, and I am trying to plot-reset and villager-reset for my favorite villager now. I think after I get my favorite villager though, my villager-resetting will be a lot more limited, as otherwise I'm not so picky. And I've never traded or done anything online for AC before, so with my new town, I want to change that!

I still follow rule #2, #4, and #7 because I just can't imagine doing it any other way, since the real-time aspect is one of the most amazingly unique things about AC and I just love donating to the museum. #5 I feel like I basically kinda' do that already within the flow of the game? Like, I try to fill my catalogue, encyclopedia, and unlock things overall as much as I can where I can when I'm playing.

I think #6 would be difficult for me though. I've never gotten a villager's picture before, ever. I don't even know how it works yet. And I don't think it would be fun to force myself to spend lots of time on a villager I don't like to get their picture before they move out? Maybe I could interact with them some, but not a whole lot. I'd rather limit the rule to where I have to let a villager go if they ask after I get their picture, but it's optional if I let them go before that. Even then, I'd have to make one special exception for my favorite, hahaha.

I guess what's most important is to create a change of pace for yourself so you get to try a new experience with the game. I put lots of restrictions on myself before, so letting a few go has made the game more exciting for me personally. For people who tie themselves up with lots of TT, resetting, optimizing, and cheating, restricting yourself so you can relax or force yourself to be more flexible can be very refreshing. Good luck with whatever rules you decide on. =)

I just got the game two weeks ago, and these rules pretty much describe how I'm playing (except for the photo rule... I didn't know the villagers give you their photos!!). I'm just trying to play the game as it was intended to be played, since that makes it more enjoyable for me. :)
