When I told a friend I had gotten a 3DS XL (currently have regular 3DS) he said if I had ACNL, I had to do some extra precautionary things to prevent file corruption. He didn't really elaborate because it happened to his GF...

So TBT, I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions or tips to avoid losing my ACNL save file

Thanks in advance!

Make a backup before doing a transfer. MANY people faced through corruption. So before the time you decide to transfer and you want to play New Leaf, save and make a backup. Then the next time, save and make a backup. So on and so on.

Ah thanks, and by backup you mean copying the data from SD card?

Basically yup. But you must do it every time after you're done playing. If you forget once and you start playing again and somehow is corrupted... You won't be able to corrupt it.

When I transferred to my XL I had a lot of troubles moving my data around. I'm surprised my data never got corrupted...

EVERY TIME? Oh dear, even after the first initial transfer?

Yup.

If the game detects a previous save with a different "time" than that one on the 3DS, the game will complain it isn't a recent save and ask you to start from scratch. So the only way to have the "save times" match in 3DS game and the 3DS "log" data is to make a backup everytime you're done playing.

The way you put it makes it sound kind of scary ._.
